Hi guys after a nightmare weekend where my project went from this

to this


I'm guessing to was a faulty fuel line
trying to work out whats likely to be salvageable basically I'm going to remove the shell possibly sell if I can and rebuild from ground up again
a lot of parts look saveable
engine
transmission
floorpan
beam
even the brake discs look good

has anybody got any experience on what can realistically be saved

A fire happened on my car when a gas line wasnt tight while in my buddys shop one time.
Luckily he was super quick with the shop air hose and put it out. I had no idea of that trick.
Right after he was pacing around going, adrenaline adrenaline.

That really sucks

Anything rubber or plastic will have perished

Good news is stripped the engine and short block,pots and barrels all look good heads and rocker gear need a good clean before I can assess. Transmission looks good but going to get it checked by the the guy who built it.
So not a complete right off

I don't think the body will be salvageable. Heat does funny things to metal, makes it weak. I'd even consider changing the pan halves, especially if you want to fit a cage to the replacement car.
Get the body off, then start measuring the pan for straightness and squareness.

Fire is my biggest fear as its just so unforgiving.

Shells on eBay at mo beyond my skills to try and repair going check chassis and rebuild from ground up
Then when done decide what I?m going to do for a body as have the space limitations of a single garage
Must admit keep having thoughts of sandrail or buggy but all depends on finances and what?s about at the time will take me at least a couple of months to do chassis

Build a quick buggy. It will get you back ON the track way faster than building a bug from the ground up.

There are rail type kits that bolt to a standard floorpan, so avoiding IVA. Worth a thought? I'd go for a LWB buggy (for the same reason) but move the seating position. Ali Southcombe had a wicked LWB drag buggy - use that for inspiration?

Marks dream shack do a frame that bolts straight down to stock chassis looks a bit like the army fast attack vehicle

It must be devastating for the fire to happen so close to finishing the car.

Moving forward I would think you would get much more use out of it if you rebuilt it as a bug, I presume it is going to be street legal .
We had a great summer but who knows what next year will be like.
