There are two schools of sleepers.
The first is the plain jane, attract no attention, fast car...steel wheels, small cam, quiet mufflers and big nitrous kit kind of car.
The second kind is the car that is obviously not stock, but goes WAY faster than it should.
check out this 1972 To#¤ta Corolla from Austrailia running 275/60/15 drag radials. This one falls into the second category.

I forgot to mention that the Corolla has license plates and it dyno'd at 1025 horsepower at the rear tires!

8 sec mustang
Fox bodied mustangs ruined street racing as far as I'm concerned. There was not a good way to tell a 12 second car from a 9 second car until it was too late.

NNNOOOO.... I was hoping the first quote was wrong for using the word "was". Then read the 2nd quote by the man himself, JD, turns out to be true. Dayum, real street needs to come back.

Thanks UD -- that was diffently a once in a lifetime shot of that wheelie, that car had never hooked that hard as it did one that one pass down at Barona, not bad for some 205 drag radials
I LOVE that farm truck and I want that horn for my next VW LOL. I had seen that truck on pinks and was wanting to put it my list of sleepers above but couldn't find it -- Thanks for finding it BB
I've been working on my next sleeper -- hoping to have the deck lid closed -- but the pipes hanging underneath are killing me -- I think a new header is in order LOL

Back in the 70's my dad built a nice little 1835 with a turbo for a bone stock 70 bug. The customer just wanted a little more power to get over the hills. My dad got the engine installed and plumbed, Went out for the first test drive. This was just a Rajay turbo and a small down draft carb. Engine ran great, went back out for a nother ride and got into a race with a 55 Chevy. Ran away from him and he came back shop to see this little bug. Blew his mind that a VW would eat his 55. I think you coluld have had a Sleeper back in the day, but now it's pretty hard to get away with it. But there are still some out there, as we have see in this post allready.
