Out of interest what's the deal on having a sticker if you're not in the DKP? I'm assuming someone could reproduce a sticker, but it would be a lot of trouble to go to, or could be taken as a compliment I suppose?

When a member sells his car, those stickers, when left in place, usually relate to a higher selling price. As for reproducing our decals and adding them to your car, you become a poseur...your car looks the part but YOU are not a part of the comraderie of the club members. As for the compliment part, I guess you could look at it that way, but club members over the years have rarely seen it that way...just my $.02.

I guessed that would be the response and entirely agree, if it wasn't a DKP car I was trying to find out what the thoughts would be on it having a sticker. I would NEVER do it myself and would expect it not to be looked on favourably...

One more thing: When selling their cars, DKP members have to remove all (club) stickers from the windows.

Mr. Ritchie isn't going to like that... including a DKP 1 hood badge. That IMO would be a tough call to regulate. I agree though (speaking as a non member which one day I would like to join) that if a member is not "active" anymore should remove all decals from his/her car.But as mentioned earlier it does increase the interest and price of the car if sold with the decals left on.

I stand corrected! I have to correct my own message: read "members of the current generation of DKP"... Nothing against Arnie selling his cars with stickers, hood badge, etc. These goodies are obviously part of the car's history.

Mr Ritchies View.....
I have said on the cal-look forum before that the cars i have both Arnies and Keith Goss cars were purchased as remmeberance of an era gone by, not to get me in any club or to pretend Im in a club, Arnies car was sold with sticker's, hood badge, Jacket, membership card and other trickets of the cars life, i fully intend keeping this all together with the car. Now the chop, when the car was sold to me the stickers were removed by my good friend Fast Brit as with him being a member of the DKP3 this was probaly the rules, Keith and i have talked this over before and as far as im concerned the stickers should still be on the car, nothing should change this unless the car was changed. Both my cars are parts of history that hopefully we all get pleasure from them and i believe they should be decorated in there truly superb club colours (sticker).
If some one buys a car with a sticker or fits a replica sticker and are trying to create alook, im fine with that, if some one trys to be or say something there not more fool them.
I dont want to have ago at the DKP3 rules as many of the Guys i have met from there, i would consider to be mates and top blokes, however we are all trying to preserve a history and i beleave the DKP should be the club we all look up too, we should never try to copy. If we compare it to say a GOD and all the other clubs are his followers, Im sure that DKP3, DAS, DFL, JG54 etc are all trying to have the same theme between there members and cars, with DKP3 having the advantage of being located in the same town with some original members of the 1st club
So to end this car should be sold with its stickers (if its to me), but if the seller decideds that the buyer will change or misrepresent the club he should remove them.......
Now.... Ive just realised i dont have A DKP3 car ? mmmm

As a matter of record, when I bought the Chop-top, it had no club decals and, as far as I know, it never ran any back in the day. Certainly I have never seen any photo of the car with them in. It was me who applied the decals
after
I was invited into membership of DKPIII, so when I sold the car, i simply reverted it to the state in which I found it.
I think everyone tends to be agreed that what sucks is a non-member applying decals – or worse still, a historic hood badge – to a car that was never in the club. Let's not even get onto the 'repro' decals with the club's name spelled wrong – or the photocopied copies I once saw on a couple of cars in France!
Anyway, back to Pep's Oval. Awesome car! Just buy it...

It is a nice car, but I think there are other cars from DKP3 that have more of a history and higher profile than this one. Now, getting one of those members to part with their car, that is another story lol.

Again, nothing against Russell's comments! Quite the contrary in fact. To me, Arnie Mohlman's '67 is the equivalent of an old hot rod survivor. This survivor should stay the way it was in its heydays. If vintage DKP stickers were part of its history, they should stay in place - like a '50s 1932 Roadster found in a barn should retain its old and faded Iskenderian sticker on its windshield for example.
I don't have a problem with DKP stickers on the Keith Goss car either. Yeah, it looks like the car never had them. But most of us on the Lounge know that the car belonged to DKP; so I understand and respect Russell's decision to put these stickers on the car.
Now, regarding the 3rd generation of DKP... I can think of one instance in particular where a member sold his
freshly completed car
with stickers he just received. He knew he could get more money by selling the car with these stickers. His decision didn't go well with the club...

Out of interest if a DKP member retains the right to put stickers and hood badges on any car he/she owns, regardless if it is a VW or not,do the old rules apply where if the car is not up to club quality then those items are removed until the car is back up to standard ?
How about if the other members had not even seen a car in person, yet the owner is a member, would it still be a DKP car ?

I can only speak from personal experience, but when I was invited into membership, as far as I am aware, only one current member of the club had ever seen the Chop-top in recent times. DKPII members knew the car well, but it had gone into hiding back in 1984, long before the third generation was formed. A large part of club membership revolves around acceptance on a personal level – there are many nice cars out there, but the owners may not fit in with the rest of the crew. I know there have been instances where people have gone through the probationary period only for their (potential) membership to be turned down. As for club members putting decals on sub-standard cars, then I don't think that's happened as yet, as there is an element of self-policing. Once in membership, I don't think anyone would stick a roof-rack on their car, for example! On the non-VW front, Roger Grago has club decals in his '73 Carrera RS replica, by the way! But I suspect nobody would put them on a Mk1 Escort...

and i bought a very nice tshirt from ron flemming with his car on the back and it also says der kleiner panzers. no logo just the name of the club, but he made the tshirts outside the DKP club. but i don't think that is a problem as he is the founding father of the club and he said to me he did it in the 'idea' or 'spirit' ( i can't come up with a correct term here) of the first DKP club where he was a founding member.
anyway, i would like to see a historic line of all the cars that were in all different incarnations of DKP. who was a member and when. is there people who quit dkp? it would be fun to know some more on the subject.
and as a last comment, it ISN'T all THAT important. i believe most of the members have brought back a club with a famous name and famous roots, but they are doing it now on their own terms. nethertheless with a great interest for the clubheritage and a high standard in qualtiy of the cars and personallity within the group or club.
correct me if i am wrong. but this is how i see it.

When we reconstituted the club some 17 or 18 years ago, it was with the permission of original DKP members. Over all these years, we've consulted with them over many years and many issues. We have several original members that hang out with us ,( some are building cars again ) , Ron Flemming has been instrumental, and a kind of Sergant of arms in some fashion ( Keith knows to what I'm refering ) , and we are fortunate to have one of the 5 founding members , Sarge, as one of our own. I don't think a meeting goes by when we don't ask him how this or that would go over with the original members. So, on our terms, somewhat, but we still have our decisions somewhat tempered by the original members. We even dropped the # 3 at the insistance of the original guys. So, if you drop by a cruise night , you'll usually see a number of original members hanging out with us. We love having these guys here with us and it's great that they help us and like what we do! You'll always see these guys at our tents at the Classic as well; A great bunch of guys.

Yes, Those are real DKP decals, most important a real x-DKP car.. I can personally say I have been around that car sense the beginning of it's Cal Look days . which was the early 80's, and It's very solid bad ass car.. When Jose had the car in his hands, the previous owner Mark, and the original owner was a Priest. They "all" taken great pride in ownership..
I did however notice some change items add to the car however the new own can give additional details if needed..

Thanks Art. My original question seemed to cause a lot of debate around the subject of decals/badges and the use of them. I just found it whilst cruising the Samba, saw the familiar sticker and wondered if it was an actual DKP car. I've found the Volksworld with the feature now as well
