The logic behind the engine deck lids is pretty clear , but i always wondered what reason was behind modifying the front hood into this ?
Was there a performance , technical aspect behind ? Or was this just for the look ?

Thanks , i admit i thought it would ve only the look but as most things had a reason to improve behind during those days I was not sure

Could be the funky design stiffened up the light fiberglass to prevent it 'oil canning' at speed...

I always thought that , but Richie has a wafer thin version of one of my glass bonnets , and that has survived 170 odd mph

first purpose for me before  used on gassers , those were made for street use  on custom bug  , them maybe , someone wanted a different look  and used  on his racer
