Hi All,
Not that I have a garage, shed or anything like that but I've started to gather some (hopefully) decent tools so that I can make a start on building my dream motor.
I'm looking at the measurement tools that would help correctly measure all the rotating parts and corresponding holes in an AC VW engine.
From the specs it looks like I need around 0 - 100mm measuring ability.
So far I have these:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mitutoyo-MT511-902-METRIC-15-150MM-0-001MM/dp/B003U9VY44and as its my birthday tomorrow I was going to treat myself to an outside micrometer but it looks like I'll need at least two - 25-50mm and 50-75mm.
Would a 0-25mm be needed as well or will a reasonable set of calipers do that OK?
There is a sale and these guys have Mitotoyo for under £100!

https://www.hroberts-di.com/all-metrology-c49/setting-standards-c131/mitutoyo-167-102-setting-standard-50mm-p2119My thinkng is that I can then measure a case, crank etc etc to the point to notice differences and make 'suggestions' to any machinists. I say suggestions as I assume (and hope) that they would measure three times with their own (better) gear anyway!
Is that a fair list of bits and does anybody have any other reccomendations?
TIA,
Marc
