welding/machining/modifying link-pin spindles.....who can help in the UK??

so here's the front wheels going on my '59........


however....they are for the early ford spindles  which are about 2" longer than the link pin vw ones,

so my options are.........1) completely remove & replace the spindle by welding on an early ford type....

                            or...2) extend the VW spindle by welding on a 2" end piece from a spare pair to give them enough length  to fit through the wheel`s hub, and then machining them to suit the ford bearings....

obviously not something for me to try and do myself........any thoughts or advice welcome......

So I take it from this the VW spindles slightly larger in diameter than a ford spindle then? What did Jon say he can do? I'm just wondering if a VW link pin spindle is similar in size to any other american car! I have some ideas but I don't know hardly anything about american cars!!

hey Steve,

the early Ford spindles are just slightly smaller in diameter, and they are about 2" shorter in length also,

the basic procedure is that he's going to remove the vw spindle and graft on the ford one, kinda how the CB dropped spindles are made with the ford spindle being wedgemated into the stub axle assembly, then tig'd up.

cant wait to get those wheels mounted...

Are you planning on racing your car at all or is it just for street use? Mine will be predominantly race so would a welded spindle be strong enough?!!

I already have these - Weld Aluma Star 2.0 in chevy pattern



But its for the front brakes I want to run! For a VW fitment they are still in the development stages (I have now found out, although they did say they were available when I first rang to order them!) so I was thinking of buying a set for a American car and machining them to fit. (They fit using a billet hub so machining wouldn't be too hard!)
