Hello everyone,

I wanted to share my car with you all...
It's a 1956 VW oval that I found in a barn after standing there for a lot of years.

It's been 10 years in the making, and for the last 2 years I could drive it.

Until now... it needs some upgrades on engine, suspension and gearbox.  Wink Wink

The engine is an 1776 cc, the output is 115 hp and 160 Nm.

I'll keep you all updated!!

Hey Yannick, thanks!!

I'm working on the gearbox for the moment... trying to make some improvements.

It's an AS version with the longer ring and pinion, that must be converted from IRS to swing axles.

Placing a stronger differential with 4 spider gears, steel shift forks and hardened keys, and stronger side covers.

For me, I can understand the improvements everyone is doing .. except from welding the synchro hubs...

But we will figure it out.. it's the first time I'm going to do this. But we never give up!!  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

For the moment it's lying on my workbench like this..

If you have that 1776cc engine with 115hp, you do not need any of those updates. Waste of money. If you have much bigger and more powerfull engine, you will need to do much more than that.

If you have a later trans the mainshaft won’t have keys it will be splined.
These shafts have 9 teeth for 1st gear vs. 10 teeth.
3.78 ratio vs. 3.80.

This is the first upgrade you would make to a gearbox to handle power, or just to gear it for better street driving.
Since it’s a factory part, easy enough to find.

FWIW steel forks are also factory parts and found in early boxes.

A great mild street box can be made from various used transaxles with a bit of luck.
