I need to get a Rev-Limiter for my engine. It has a Vertex Magneto, the Tach is an old Autometer.

I think about purchasing an Autometer Pro Control. So far so good.

Summit offers 8 different Pro Controls Huh, which one do I need? I guess my Magneto is the OAC type, right? After my car ain't supercharged, it should be model 5302

Anyone experience with that? BTW, what's the difference between Supermag, OAC and OXC Magneto?

Muchas gracias,
Ole

Hi Ole,

Yes you'll need the ATM-5302 unit, Nico is using the same one in the muppet racer and we just ordered one for Fred Twins to...

Concerning OAC and OXC it's internal and external magneto Coils....

I use one of these Pro-controllers in my looker in combination with my Vertex Magneto.
To further complicate things I use a VDO 80mm rev counter and a converter from Autometer, called 9118.
I contacted Autometer to find out how you use the pro controller with the 9118...  but they didn't know.
So I gave it my best shot... the revcounter works just fine, but I can't get the pro controller to kick in..?!

I don't feel that a magneto converted Monster 5" would fit in my car...  so If you find out anything that could help me Ole, I would appreciate it.

I use the 5302 type together with Joe Hunt magneto and Pro-Comp tach in my car. Wireing gave some headache because the Pro-Control can be used for several tasks. Shout if You need any help when installing it.

Jon, my tach is the type for Magnetos, no converter needed. That means I can see it from the marks on the pistons AND on the tach, when I missed gear... Roll Eyes

Valvesprings? I converted to a pneumatic valve control system some years ago... Grin

I wouldn't use a limiter if I'd earn half the $$$ Mr. James does...

Thanks Ole, but I had that drawing, except mine said Autometer on the tin ;-)
I you compare this scheme with the one for the procontroller, you will probably see they don't mix to good...

But I must admit, I suck at electrics...

It should realy not be any problem JHU, if You wire like the print fore the Pro-Control says, and conect the brown/orange from the coverter to the TRIG. point at the Pro-Controller. And You don`t need to do two wires all the way to the magneto, only the one from the TRIG. to the primary terminal, and then You make a short loop from the TRIG. to N.O.

just wanted to bring this topic back up.
JHU, did the wiring advice of Berger work for you?
is there no smaller device to use with a vertex magneto? i'm just wondering where to put the pro control since the glove box compartment is not ideal for a street car  Wink

I don't think I tried it, as I got hold of a small old Autometer Tach for Magneto...
But please report back if it works...
The old Pro-controllers are much smaller and cooler... look at old gassers and you will see them from time to time...
My next project is to fit two pro-controllers  Wink

very interesting topic - I want to use a mag on my 2180 SPG motor and I think it would be a good idea to have a limiter Wink

i am using a mag already and the thing i'm worried about most is missing a shift with a very light flywheel and the 1915 engine seeing 9,000rpm in a flash.
i'm not so much looking for the japanese 7,000rpm wop-wop-wop sound... or am i?  Roll Eyes Wink

I sent JHU a mail some time ago were I explained the wiring of both the pro controller and the converter. Works fine on my car. Do you still have it?
To the best of my memory it seems very similar to how Berger describes it.
Mounted the pro control just next to my left knee on the carpet in front of the drivers side door if you know what I mean...

I like JHU's way of mounting it better though...  Cheesy

I still got it Johnny, haven't gotten around to testing yet...
I use it for a rudimentary launch control so I needed to read the "pre-test button" from the drivers seat...
As we all know... form follows function... image is nothing...  Grin

i've just put in my pro-control this weekend, i too didn't want it in the glovebox, so i've put mine centrally on the front bulkhead, above the tunnel, i'm going to cut the carpet neatly around it and re-bind the edges.

sounds interesting jick!
i've been thinking of mounting it in the front trunk like the electrics in the berglar, whatever those parts are that car has a lot mounted there.
