Yes. Gary Berg's car is Porsche Minerva Blue and that is a metalic color. Wasn't Art Gutierrez's car metalic green? I think it would depend on the color. It would have to be in good taste, but then who defines good taste?

Hi Lee there were Quite A Few Car's Painted Metallic In The 70's But Most were Painted Porsche, BMW, or Mercedes Colors Even The Solid Color's that were Used were Colors of High End Cars$$$ Only Certian Metallic Colors look good On Bugs

I think it would depend on the color. Some of the modern metalic paints probably not so much. Stick close to basic colors and I think you would be okay. Or Like Shubee says, look at colors from high end cars like Porsche. --louis

mine is metallic and it is callook. a nice burgundy metallic paint or blue is very nice. or a black with a little blue in it ( subaru WRX colour) would look good too. my friend has that and ask Flatfire what he thought of the car at EBI when he was on the campsite at Camargue...

The right metallic brown would be excellent on a dechromed car.

There was a '70s Ford Metallic Brown that looks bitchin on bugs. Sort of a Chocolate color. --louis

My car is barely metallic, has a mica in the base coat. Not sure if the original Porsche Adriatic blue was metallic or not, but the guy that painted my car in 1989 thought the mica would be a subtle and tasetful touch. I like it. Not sure if it qualifies as CAL LOOK or not.

for me Art G's car is a perfect colour, as is Hector Bonilla's, but i think its very easy to get it wrong with a metallic.
maybe limited to dark burgundy reds, dark bottle greens, Thurber browns.....

That car at Camargue rocked. I think because it was different, it was a refreshing change. Everytime I want to paint a bug a base colour. The devil taps me on the shoulder and says '' ignore the base and get some sparkle into your life''. I love Mark Thurbers metallic brown bug. Have a nice Christmas Nicolas
