I'm still much taller than you are, but you're catching up nicely. I'll never catch up.
Nico, I don't know what happened to the dark red car, but Dave still has the India Red car to this day and in it's same condition. We built our cars in '79 together when I was a mechanic at his family's VW/Porsche shop. Another Cal Look survivor.
Glenn, I've said it many times and I'll always say it... COOL CAR. Good to see that I'm not the only o.e.m. Cal Look fan out there.

How about this factory red Cal-Look car in the making?
A set of spindles, wheels and tires, and a big engine and you're done.
I'm way ahead of you. I donno, there's lots of ANTI-Cal-Look chrome on that thing.....

mark what are you wainting to go to make photos of his car Fabian, if all goes as planned, I'm going to Arizona this October for a race with McNew. If so, I'll try to make a run to Dave's place and hopefully get some updated pictures... now that I have a real camera. The dark red car... did that belong to I think his name was Clark?? That sounds about right, Rick, but I'm not 100% sure. good thing Sarge looked before he backed out. Good Lord... John's logic is contagious, it turns out.

I never really considered my car a "traditional" Cal Look... after all... it's a Fatty. Great looking car, Glenn! What size are those rear Pirellis? They're 195/60-15 on all 4 corners. I need to replace them since they are old and hard. They spin real easy. I'm planning on a set of BF Goodrich G-Force 195/55-15 front and 205/60-15 rear.

Glenn could change that up by doing the bumpers, headlight rings and turn signal covers up in red (leave the rubber deco strips on the bumpers) and by doing the trim in black semi-gloss powder coat. Just 'cause it's a Fatty doesn't mean it can't be Cal Look, too. It's fun to be different... ....."I'm planning on a set of BF Goodrich G-Force 195/55-15 front and 205/60-15 rear."
The taller back tires will add to the "Look"... good call!

John, he was simply on his knees looking for the nickel he dropped in 1995.

Brazilian Beetle's are quite an odd ball. They have bits of Beetle's from various years, my guess is only a Brazillian could tell you the year

Constantly evolving: One of the first times on the road: After years of daily abuse: Now: the stance on this is spot on! on the top pic, is the beam stock width? and how did you 'age' the brms? or havn't washed them?

I'm pretty sure Sam didn't bury his BRM. Just daily use on salty roads will do the trick. Note these are the raw finished version, so no clear coat and hand detailed. Jelle

Don't really have any more good pictures of the car at this time. Hope to take it out and do some more detailed pictures in the future. Car has been finished on this redo for 1 1/2 years but I have procrasted on the photos. The car was featured in the Jan. '09 issue of Hot VW,s though, so more pictures are there. Happy New Year to you too Sarge. Hope to make it out to the Classic this year.

and how did you 'age' the brms? or havn't washed them? Thanks! Top pic is stock width beam, rear at stock setting, but slightly higher due to some weight removal. Second pic is narrowed and even more lowered beam and rear one notch down. After that I smartly went back to stock width beam at a more comfortable height and leveled out the rear end. Like Jelle said: Daily use and road salt can "age" a cheap repro BRM pretty fast.
