The town of Kingsburg, CA. famous for being a Swedish village in the San Joaquin Valley, is also the raisin capital of the world. As you read this the raisin grapes are drying in 98 deg f sun just a hundred yards from our house. As Orange County expatriates we're just three hrs. north of LA,
if you're in the area call us. We're in the book.

I've heard that Sean Connery and Clint Eastwood have both bought homes in a community here. How would you like to be flanked by 007 on one side, and Dirty Harry on the other? No one would fuck with that neighborhood Wink

When I was really small, my family had gone up to Scotland for a summer holiday. We were driving through St Andrews golf course (the main road runs through the middle) when a golfer just stepped out into the road. Dad hit the brakes and the golfer looks up and waves his hand in apology. It was Sean Connery! We were all quite amazed that James Bond would be so easy for SPECTRE to kill... Cheesy

Straight outa Riverside!

« Reply #130 on: October 28, 2009, 22:21:56 pm »

I just read the entire thread - no one from Riverside CA??
Growing up as a kid in Riverside, everyone talked about the Navel Orange Industry. In 1870s the first hybrid navel orange trees in the United States (from Brazil) were planted in Riverside CA.
It became one the centers of the Citrus production in SoCal.

Riverside Raceway was a pretty famous too, saw Lots of Drags, Iroc and Can-am races there. Dig that straight away over a mile long!

Best of all Riverside was a Volkswagen town, thanks to Joe Vittone, and the people around him Wink

My home town was Baldwin Park, California --- the most important contribution
to my life & what my city is most famous for is..........drum roll please.............
IN - N - OUT BURGER & the first drive thru in 1949 .
Many many many days & nights were spent hanging out there. It was #1
and I used to go there for lunch when I was in high school. Sadly, they have
torn down the original -- but a larger version complete with a training university
is very close by. For those of you that know --- you know, if you never had a
DOUBLE-DOUBLE   or those fries -- hand-cut or my
personal favorite Neopolitan shake, you need to find out. Nothing says Cal-Look
like In-N-Out... There only mistake since '49 --- switching to Coke  Angry Shubee
and I used to go there to get 10 cent PEPSI !!!

Now I live in Ontario -- famous for a speedway -- which held some great concerts
and then was torn down to make room for the Ontario Mills a HUGE outlet mall.
How big -- if you walk one circuit of the mall, you've walked 1 mile. Oh yeah,
we have an airport here, with Fontana in our backyard, 4 freeways pass thru the
city. NFL Hall of Famer Anthony Munoz / Cincinnati Bengals went to Ontario High.
