has anybody done anything to quicken steering ratio in a Type 1?

Does a 356 have a quicker geared box?

Do any of them fit a VW?

Any other ideas to make steering a little more lively?

No it lenghtens the pitman arm, so you get a higher ratio on your steering.

the "how to build baja bugs and buggies" book does mention the use of a 356 box as it was supposed to be sturdier than the stock one, so I don't think it's a very difficult swap.
