Doe's anyone know where I can get some Zolotite paint (i think its called that ) for my tin ware . Similar to Bill Schwimmer's and Darrell Bomgaar's . Going to be re-detailing my engine and I want to apply this finnish . I did read about it way back some place but cant remember the specifics , seam to recall it being available in aerosol form ? any help on availability especially in the UK would be gratefully appreciated . Do you mean Zolatone??? any store that sales automotive paint will have it. I used it for the bed on a truck I used to have. the stuff is great  |

The bed was hot pink if I remember correctly.....the REST of the truck was Zolotone. I think the finish 49-rag wants is silver-vein or hammered silver finish. It is a nice look. |

Zolotone is the paint used in the past by some people to do the engine bay or trunk area. You can buy a similar paint in aerosol form in Homebase. However, I think the hammer-effect finish you're talking about is a stove enameling process.

I'd go for the Olde English Charm look and do it up in a walnut burl finish. You know like an old Bentley's dashboard. Now that's hot. |

I think Bill's tinware is powdercoated in a hammertone not Zolotone. Zolotone was used in some domestic (US) cars in the trunk area. It hides many flaws and that's why some people use it. I sprayed my glove box with it. I believe it is water based and needs to be sealed with a clear coat for durability.

try the stone effect paint you can get a B & Q the paint over the top in the colour you require , thats how I did my tinware

Most of the Guys Nowdays use powdercoated tinware in a hammertone Finish,Hammertone is also made in a spray can Form as a paint which you can get at most home improvement centers (Lowes,Home Depot) in paint form it is limited to about six different colors. If it is done as a Powdercoat there are alot more color choices. Zolotone was used in some domestic (US) cars in the trunk area. It hides many flaws and that's why some people use it.

Thanks for the suggestions guys , kinda like that last one Ben , will see if I can get it done similar a couple of shades nearer to black .
This thread has got me thinking , has anyone ever seen an old MGB dash board , finished in a black crackle effect , might have to look into what the powder coaters can do ?
