he was friends with Berg (Gary) and was employed there.

and i think the top pictures are taken by Mike Key ( i have a feature in his book: aircooled volkswagens, it is in german and his engineshot is upside down. maybe i can scan them as well. maybe they are slightly different, but likely the same shoot)

it is a great colour and an idea for that post of the blue bug that Jim wants to paint some goldish yellow, i had to think of this car rightaway. i don't like the interiour that much (panels) but i wouldn't be mind being seen in it.  Roll Eyes

great car, but probally like Gary a friend and regular. but i am not sure

I have always liked that car. Never saw it in person though.

I met Brody back in 1990 @ Jamboree, he was hanging out with all the B.R.M. cars. I think he rode in a black car that at first glance, looked like Mason's. If I remember it had 2110 with W125 and 48IDAs. he was cool to talk to, kinda gave me a tour of the group of then newly reformed DKP club and cars.

Jim: Yes, it is.
These pictures bring back some great memories, including the pic showing Ron Fleming and Art Gutierrez next to the green '67. As a side note, I shot an almost identical picture 15 years later (still with Ron, Art and the '67), which was published in the latest Hot VWs (club article).
Not sure what happened to Brody's '65 sedan... Like many at the time, Lenny's KG convertible went to Japan.
Don't miss the next issue of Ultra VW - plenty of DKP material, as well as other clubs!

Steph, thanks, you know I have always had a soft spot for Jim's '67.

Hard to find pictures of it.

That pic of it with higher nose, is how I remember it from Jamboree where I first saw it. What a killer car.

Now how about any shots of the Mason Monster with the side-exit muffler?

The green car with sprintstars was Rudy Chavez. He was only in the club about a year or so. Oh, and Brody still has his car.

No, that's Jim Kurlinski's '67. The '67 with Sprint Stars belonged to Rudy Chavez.

To get things straight, here is the list of the 16 cars/owners involved in the '92 photo shoot:
- In front: Danny Gabbard's black '58 Ghia, Lenny Copp's Convertible Ghia, Robert "Burger" Bontyant's orange Ghia
- 2nd row: Art Gutierrez's '67, Gary Berg's '67, Bill's '59, John Rayburn's '64, Greg Brinton's '67, Dave Mason's '62
- 3rd row: Hector Bonilla's '67, Jim Kulsinski's '67, Dave Kanase's '64, Rudy Chavez's '67, Henry Oelker's '66, Dave Rhoads' '64, Brody's '65

Hey Jim! Feel free to swing by the house one day! I know, it's not very close; but with the baby coming soon, you'd better hurry! Should be fun to dig through old slides, magazines and archives. Let me know...

Thanks Steph, I'll try for a coming Saturday. Weekends have already become baby-preparation time. Knew it was coming....  Do you ever go to Irvine for those early morning coffee & cruises? Maybe afterwards?
