So did the clubs have a written acceptance criteria for cars, assuming the owner was club material anyway, of was it just a general consensus. And what was the standard?

I don't think most of the clubs did but we certainly did. I can't remember the criteria but off the top of my head it was; single color paint (multi color on approval) lowered, wheels, exhaust, cal look themed.

No doubt he was bigger.  Although Im no twig anymore.  I guess I waited until I was in my mid 20's to grow up (or out).  Im now 6'2" and 210.  I still look good in those big shorts tho ha.  As well, I just spoke to Cory and he wanted to say hello to all you former Deeeeeeek's (as Henry Mayeda used to say) and Cory is totally up for getting together with some of the old dudes!  Plus he laughed so hard when I mentioned the Dead Kennedy's thing.  Man, his car was sweet.  he bought it from the original owner in 1979 for I think 6 or $800 dollars and it had an original tool kit in the spare.  He sold that at one of the VW swap meets at the OC Fairgrounds and used the money in part to have the car painted.  Think he sold it for $150 way back then.  It was in pristine shape.  Then he got a deal from a local cronie on Whittier Blvd. for the 2.0L wheels.  I remember the "guy" asked us what kind of wheels we wanted, we told him 2.0L and said he'd "find" some for him.  Well a week later the "guy" called and said he had them.  We go to picik them up in Duarte or somewhere? at his house and "guy's" bug has a bullet hole in the rear window.  He tells us as he was leaving the street from where he "found" the wheels someone shot at him.  Needless to say Cory did not pay retail for them.  Hah

Another note, I have a copy of the HotVW issue where we (DKK) are on the cover and it has everyone from the clubs hand signed signatures on it.  It may be the only one like it.  I will dig it out of storage and post a pic.  It could be interesting to try and figure out all the names.  Sound good?  Anyone?  And yes Fabian Im sure you have the magazine issue, feel free to post it in the interim if you like.

I definately can confirm that this was Geno's car.  Henry bought the car from Geno, put full bumpers on it and after a short time buffed off the deck lid paint.  I remember it well.
