His name was Dave Wright. Dave Rosique built the engine and wired the car when he worked for H and H Motors. The trans was built by Herb, half owner of H and H. I can ask Dave who did the body.

The cars body work was done by a fellow named Mike or Mark Dennis  that built and owned a black chopped racecar named Dennis The Menace. Wrights car was actually a 54  and the Brms were nos units that came from fellow keep  on buggin member Richard Huggins. Huggins Dad owned a VW dealership in Oregon that was an EMPI distributer. They had an attic full of stuff including 5 sets of BRMS and a shoebox full of caps to go with them. Wright bought the wheels for 500 dollars and clearcoated them after polishing. The mill was a 78 x 88 with some kind of Norris cam in it and was completed in 1976. The plate read KOB1 (Keep On Buggin). The car was sold in 1978 for a whopping 10,000 dollars and went back east somewhere. The car raced at Bugin , but granny shifted because he built the car for show and didn't want to wreck the car. It ended up going low 14's on the radials. Dave Rosique is going to try and get some photos of it from Wright ; if he does, I'll post them.

Here's a shot of the car I took at Bug-In and the story was it was fresh from the paint shop.  The car stunk pretty bad, but looked awesome. Grin

It was a cover car on Hot VW's. Rosique says he still has it somewhere. The car never got the credit it deserved largely because it wasn't an OC car. Dave Wright held a grudge against OC clubs, mainly from losing members of KOB to a few other clubs. He built the car to demonstrate that the scene was quite large even if it was in Long Beach. But the car was largely ignored.

Fabs, I remember seeing it. I've only got a small collection from the late '70s and early 80's, but I've got this one. Around '78 seems to ring a bell.
