Mine was 1989, 1641 dual 36mm carbs, etc, vs. 1984 Chevy Truck with 305cu in and headers.

Great idea for a thread.
Can't remember my first one... but I can still recall the pissed off look on a few American car owners' faces after a few mini races on Whittier Blvd. back in the early '80s. At the next light or at the offsite race locales, they'd ask me my engine size. When I told 'em 1700cc and Kadrons with an Engle 110 cam, they swore that I was using nitrous. HAHAHAHA!!! Poor lads, for had nary a clue to how power-to-weight works on this giant ball that we call Earth.
The best was one night McNew was driving Kevan's car and I was lucky enough to be sittin' in the right seat. Keep in mind, that was a convertible Ghia and the engine displacement was only 1600cc. There was some black or dark colored Trans-Am or Camaro that was all pissed off 'cause we killed him while cruising Whittier. I couldn't stop laughing. That car always supported my theory that displacement doesn't always play the the main factor when building a fast engine.
Best Karmann Ghia EVER, in my not-so-humble opinion.

I think it was a '94 5.0... I whipped his ass pretty good, I picked up my timing slip and he drove straight out the gate!!

Took my bug out yesterday for the very first time with legal license plates and insurance and I already have a nice story. My buddy has a ’71 corvette, 350CI with 270 HP… So we went for a drive to my headporter because he needed to checkup my engine. I know all the parts but can’t bolt an engine together myself so I don’t wrench on my engine and certainly not on my IDA’s… Idle rpm was a little to high and the engine wasn’t reving like it should be IMHO. Like I said before, this is really the first time I drove a hot vw so I didn’t have a clue what to expect… We line up, start… a shift to second gear and the corvette is already next to me, I shift to third and the corvette nails me big time… I was a little bit disappointed because it was his standard vette (he has two, a nice original one and a souped up ’78 with nos etc…) I saw his smile on his face and it just pissed me off… but I stayed calm. I said to myself, you need to be calm with the engine, wait what Steve says… (steve is the headporter) So we arrive @ Steve’s and I tell him my problem, he looks @ my car and obviously somethings wrong… there is one sparkplug that isn’t working well, so he replaces it, cleans out the carbs, sync’s them and fire up the engine… MAN! That sounds like hell when he revs the engine… there I was, with my buddy against me, me with a big smile, his smile fades away…
So we leave and after a few km’s we line up again: 3 2 1 … slam on the gas, WWWOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW this car runs like hell, shift in second gear, thirth… a look in my rearview mirror, and I see a little corvette fading away…. Man, that feels good! My car runs well and I already smoked a vette on the first day… I hope I stand a chance against his souped up vette… We will see…

We don't have many V8 things over here so my funniest one was on the dragstrip. I was racing in Sportsman ET (bracket race class, 11.99 and slower) and came up against a stock brown mid-'70's 350ci Camaro. I'd got my little 1584cc spare motor in my racecar, and I think I'd dialled in 16.10 or something similar. Off we went and I realised I was a couple of car lengths in front so I kept my foot in and broke out - my first 15!
Good job it was qualifying and not eliminations!

Not V8's but pocket rocket hot hatches, a sierra cosworth 2litre turbo on a country road just couldn't get away, it was when I came upto a speed camera I realised I needed to replace the drums with discs! I had a good race with a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, I knew he'd leave me for dead, I just wanted to see how much by! I pretty much stayed with him in first and second
I've promised to race my dad in his GMC Typhoon but i'm leaving that one until I fit the 2387
