History of Volkswagen Greats
«
on:
February 18, 2008, 15:52:18 pm »
I have a few issues(6) of this magazine lying around the house, so i might decide to complete a collection.
Does anybody have any details about it. Year it started, how the issue numbering went for example. When did it stop publication? I think it changed name at some point.
What are the most desirable issues etc?
Fabs you must know, plus a few of the older US guys on here.
TIA

About all I recall is that the publication was started by George Elliott @ Argus Publishing, and the name changed from VW Greats, to VW & Porsche, to VW & European Cars, to European Cars. Argus Publishing was purchased by KIII, which became Primedia, which is now..... I believe Keith Seume once did a summary of all the issues they did up to a point.

Early issues are the best ones...
IMHO, the best cover ever is the one with Inch Pincher too on cover! Issue 3 or 4... The issue 2 with red EMPI GTV on cover is very sexy too...
If you have opportunity to buy them, don't hesistate! You can easily complete your collection on ebay at very affordable prices...

"Wrong"...Sorry Fabs...
Volkswagen Greats continued under the Name "VW and Porsche" for some time...
Still some fantastic issues and features in them even if they were called "VW and Porsche"...
I do have them all up to 84 i think...

Awesome... VW Greats published some bitchin' gasser features, the majority of them came from Jere, or Don Emmons. I forgot about most of them, including the one on Tar Babe. Frank "Scan-O-Rama" Lux.
