Does the 912 engine have a "Roller bearing" crank?

Ours does not have an SPG crank, it has a Scat Crank...

How much HP can one safely pull out of a 912 engine built of nothing but the best parts? My friend has a 912 with turbo and 1700cc cyl's... how much can the engine take?? A bit of topic this, sorry! Does anyone know?

I'd also like to know alittle more about these engines - I was thinking of buying one a while back to put in a bug, do they fit straight onto a volkswagen box?

I think this one has pushed the 912-engine quite to the max without turbo:

First of all putting 48s or 46 IDAs on these engines are nothing new ! For the big Solex 40 P II manifold theres a Scat adaptor - like an extra manifold to accept the 48s. simply named adaptor/manifold for 912--to 48 IDA.

Second who else than someone for pure nostalgic reasons or Historic racing would ever use the crappy 356/912 engine ? ?

Big, bulky heavy and with a VERY weak crankcase. I had a few and they sure are fun while they last. Remember back in 84-85 I had a roofchooped -63 sunroof beetle with a Super 90 engine, pretty much leaked trough the casting and EXPENSIVE to work with, and again heavy as F#Īk !   a hopped up 1641-1915cc or the likes are a better choice.

A good friend are a Porsche professional dealing with 356/901/911s etc  he built a all out race 356 engine for a customer and 180hp is THE most you could ever wish from these lumps and at what cost ? ?  Roll Eyes  well just about 15 000+ euros and you need to nurse them more than a newborn child !   Tongue
