i have been asking myself how big of a percentage 'Callook' takes in the aircooled VW hobby?
if you only read through a couple of posts here on this forum, you will see that there is a vast and widespread callook scene that has been growing from the early 60's.
on a regular basis you see pics and articles pop up from all sorts of magazines (drag racing, rally, porsche,...) that features cars that have the callook performance or parts on them.
and yet, wen you talk with others at meetings they rarely seem to understand callook or know what it is. they still look at it as the custom beach cruisers with chroom trim from the 80's (the callooks that are not callook) even in the early nineties callook cars were not know as such. too wild for a stocker and not wild enough for a custom.
if events are held that have a callook background (like DDD or euroean Bug IN), a lot of people come and enjoy he show and see the cars. but are they as eager as us to know more about them?
i have been asking myself his and i can't really put it into perspective...

are we the best kept secret in the vw hobby  Wink

Didn't Volkswagen manufacture 20+ million Beetles? Then add other air-cooled Volkswagens on top of that number. IMO, if you think about that number of cars manufactured and (various kind of) people into these cars you get the perspective. There is probably greater variety in styles how you can build your '52 Volkswagen than what you can do to your '32 Ford Cheesy
