According to my Dad, it was common Knowledge Back in the day that '67's were "the best year" and when my my Dad, my uncles, or any of their friends bought bugs, that's what they all looked for. Apperently, the liked the 1500cc engine and 12 volt electrics with the cool bumpers and lowback seats. In fact, my uncles first car, a '67 that he bought in '69 or '70 was also my first car in 1990 and is the same Bug I still have.  Smiley

Yes, I agree. As soon as the '67 came out, it was the hottest deal VW ever offered. Look at guys like Don Crane who took brand new cars and began to hot rod them. Back then, you had the 40hp class, and these '67 were evil, killers, too fast for the class. It just never stopped being the cool year to make changes and improvments with.

1967, as a model year, has been a sought after one for not only Volkswagens, but for many other cars. Porsche, Chevrolet, etc. As for American cars, I personally feel that the last good model year is 1972. Other than that, I can't stand 'em. Back to VWs; my favorite years will always be 1966-1969. I feel that those are the best years and where the factory really had it right.

I remember going to the dealer in late '67 and seeing the new '68 Beetles. We ended up driving home in a new Savannah Beige one. At the time, I'm sure many other families liked the look of the newer fenders and bumpers, too. It had been many years since VW did any major changes. Loved that car. Somewhere, I have a pic of me waxing the paint with my Dad.

To each their own... 'tis merely my 2¢.

Carry on.
