I got 56 reasons to kick your ass!!

WWW
« on: March 30, 2008, 21:42:08 pm »

its time to get me a new shifter for my '56.

I've had a look at the Berg options but wanted to have a look at something else too, to give me options...

I've been looking at the CSP T button shifters. They do a "short" version and a "normal" version.... Anyone know the difference??  Huh

Obviously the "short" version is shorter  Wink

How much shorter are they and are there any advantages/ disadvantages??? Its for my 2276cc, fast road/ RWYB, Oval

Its the CSP's i've looked at, but wanted to get a few opinions on shifters in general really. All opinions valued  Wink Wink

The CSP shifters are great. In fact just as good or better than Berg´s. CSP´s   "short" is too short for anything but race. Even racers tend to use the "longer" version. But that works very ell on the street and on the track.

It is just me, or does anyone else feel the Berg shifter handle's squared off shape (top and edges) feel kinda bulky in your hand? I feel like taking mine and sanding the crap out of it to round it off more.

Not just you Deano, many agree that the Berg handle is bulky and uncomfortable.

I had the fingergrip contoured Berg handle on my old '65 and I liked it.

The ball that Berg came out with a few months back looks real nice too.

I have an original Hurst I will be installing in my next Bug.

After driving about 150K miles shifting with a Berg shifter my right hand wouldn't feel at home on any other shifter handle!

My only problem with the Berg shifter is the width of the neck that attaches to the shaft. I have pretty big hands and I still have a problem comfortably gripping the handle.

Last time I called Berg they still had a few of the finger grip 5 speed handles. They were able to fit mine to the newer style shifter. I think the finger grip handles are more comfortable than the new style.

The fingergrip handles are way more comfy than the normal Berg ones for sure.. Like all other CSP products, theyr shifters are probably second to none when it comes to quality but for me they just look wrong.. Too modern.

Then you have a bionic hand or a shift rod that's doing it's own magic thing in your gearbox when you try to shift down.

Funny you said that since you were the one complaining about having “tons more unrelated posts and threads that have nothing to do with vw’s in general or cal-look’s.  Who cares who passed the sausage to whom gay crap, cartoons and rainbows” under "what is happening to the lounge……….

Glad to see you are having fun now ………………  Grin

 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Berg shifts great, but is very un-ergonomic.
Scat= Crap
Stock shifter w/ kit= Crap
Hurst copy= Crap
Hurst Indy is crap... not bad once you get used to it though
E-Z-R is great Smiley
Hurst/DDS... I plan to find out soon on my own projects Wink
