Probably stupid for me to post this, because I don't own a scanner.

I would have to vote for the shot of Jim Holmes in the "CALIFORNIA" T-shirt wiping down his white 1963 car from Feb 1975 Hot VWs.

Great thread concept, Jim. So many classic pictures to choose from over the years. I'd have to dig out my magazine collection and pictures that I've taken from the past and now. Currently, this ranks as one my alltime faves. Here's a tweaked version, if you will.

I will try to once I get home from the office.

Another good one was Schwimmer's ragtop leaving lights HARD @ Carlsbad, 1999? The picture was featured in DKPIII article in Hot VW's in late 1990's.

To me, it's not just the car or angle, etc....   it's the overall mood and feel of the picture. Mark, that picture of Sarge's red '67 has to rank as one of the BEST shots ever of a proper Cal Look car....  you work magic with a camera, brother.  Smiley

Well I'll start be saying that my pick is far from being unprejudiced but here's my favorite. I picked it because a) it's of my club and b) I think it really captures the feel of what Bug-Ins were like in the early 80s.

Ah... Scwimmer's car in that shot is alltime! I forgot about that image. Good call, Jim. Thanks for the kind words. I just dig that car and love shooting pics of stuff that looks good. I remember trying to frame that shot and Rick M. walkin' up behind me sayin' something like, "So... getting artsy, are we?" HAHA!! In a nutshell... YES.

Let's see some more shots.

OTHER version? I shudder to ask.

HA!

Back on topic... I remember seeing Mark Ramirez's black car in Hot VWs right about when I got in D.K.K. Thought that was a cool layout and car.

About the crowd shot from the Bug-In... Tom Chambers shot that photo from the grandstands looking down. I remember talking about having a crowd shot on the cover, as to me, it didn't focus on the basic VW shape, and from a distance (on the newsstands), it looked like your basic L.A. riot, used car lot. I think the internal voting was 3-1 in favor.... Turns up, that particular issue did not sell well on the newsstands.

That would be me, looking into Vince Ito's yellow car. I also see a few other people in that pic. My best friend's younger brother had just bought McNew's old Sqaureback (next to it in the foreground), and a few others.

Lowoval, were you in D.K.K.? Those pics have the club cars in 'em. Mark Ramirez in the top pic next to the brown car. Looks like our club line up at Bug-In in that crowd shot with Brennan's oval window. Good stuff!

brown car was Mark's before he painted it black.  which oval are you talking about, dark blue was ken white, light blue was Mark's girl friends and the red one (I can't remember his name).

Right on, Jim. Welcome to The Lounge. I was in the club from '79-'85. Are you going to Bug-In this Sunday?

Sorry, Jim... I totally missed this post and your pictures. Those are some cool shots, too! I was referring to the light blue oval. I assumed it was Kevin Brennan's car. I guess not. His car had buggy bars front & rear. I can't quite see if your pic has the car with bumpers or not. I'm getting old and my eyesight's getting even older.
