Hi guys,

I've been surfin here for a while now and thought it would be time for me to present my cal-looker.

Bought the car almost 10 years ago from a previoius DAS member.  It was at that time sitting on sprinstars 4lug, balck t-bars, stock interior and running a 1600 CC engine with dual 36.

here is a list of the mofiication the car received since then :

- Sway-away
- Drop spindels
- Front Disc
- Line-lock
- Gene-berg shifter
- Autometer in place of the original unit + shift light build in the dask plate
- VDO press and T° in te glove box.
- Porsche 914 front seats
- 4 points roll cage
- Type 3 rear drums
- Rancho (shit!) gearbox...new one is coming
- external oil cooler+fan
- Convertible decklid
- 5 porsche fuch wheels (front's are 4,5 backs are 6 deep) + 2X6 equiped with Phoenis slicks
- Holey fuel pump and regumator, autometer fuel press jauge.
- Pop-out
- Nardi steering wheel
- aluminium t-bars
Engine:

Build five (or six years ago) 1915 CC
using a conterweigt crank, lightened flywheel, and damper pulley all balanced together.
super comp 42/37,5 heads by Steve VW shop, 1,25 rockers, 48 IDA, scat trak manifold, MSD 6AL complete ignition, A1 muffler, engle 125, full flow.
Made 167 HP on the rolling road, my best ET since then is a 13,4 (should check my stock of time slips to 100% sure)
and still driving it regularly in the summer...

Well that's it.....

Comming mods are a new gearbox for this season (should go faster)))
after this car should go back to a more streetable use and be replaced on the track by a "real" drag car based on my '66 body wich burned in my garage last year ...

Christofe

PS : just a detail, car has never been restored, welded, resprayed excpt for the decklid....wich is what I prefer from this car.....

One of my favourite cars. Is it possible to see some pictures of the interior?

Thanks

this car really rocks. from the first time i saw it i like it and have been wanting to drive it. it is so good, not perfect but you see it can be used and driven. and it is. everybody knew it was you who was coming to PAT's on the openday before bugin without seeing you. just hearing it was enough. drive it hard. this car kicks ass.

What is the deal with cars with tall aprons and small bumpers and taillights? Is that original or a modification?

Really? Every '68 & later 1200 Standard I've ever seen had the bigger tail lights. Other than that, cool car! I miss my orange Beetle.

Its original.
Maybe we should call it the budget(standard) model, it was the cheapest you could get in europe.

It had the normal 68 > aprons and lids, upright front fenders with horn grills.(only one but I don t know for sure)
Small > 68 tail lights, and the mentioned small bumpers.
It also had the small headliner as in early models.

Europen models differ to US in another way, unless the car was a 1302/1303 or semi auto, they were all swing axle right upto the end of production Grin
