The merge, conventional and sidewinder headers all taste alike. Hold your nose and take a bite of each one. They will all taste sweet.

I retract my earlier post about the cage. Cheesy Grin

It's this coming weekend and the boys will be there with me for one of the days Smiley

Smiley  I'd have to say, this car was the original inspiration for me.  Dr. Josef Gerold's 226 horse Kafer-Cup monster.....

Followed by Walter Schäfer's car that dominated the Kafr-Cup series in '89, '90, and '91.

Hey Derek, you are building a nice car(and nice inspiration car for sure)
I had the chance to see the "käfercup"-raceseries live a few times in the late 90's,it was great.
(don't believe that dr.Gerold was in the cup at that time,I have to check my pics)   Wink

I wish I could have seen it in person.  I was in Germany for a bit during that time, but missed the races.  You wouldn't happen to have any cool pics or memorabilia from the series that you might be willing to share/part with?  I'm looking for videos, pics, programs, posters....... i've been searching for years!

Hi Derek,

it's a nice project you've going on. I've been involved in the Käfer-Cup since the early 90's as a mechanic and participated in the last season before it's demise in 1999. The highlight was in 1995, we were overall Käfer-Cup-Champion with my buddy's 1302. I still got my car (1303 RHD), it's sitting there without gearbox but a brand new 2.0l Type1, waiting for the things to come...

I'm still in touch with some of the guys, very few of them are still racing today. Some weeks ago I went to the Salzburgring/Austria to watch some of them and have a chat. Thomas Wöhr was there to bring his 1303 to the track first time with his brand new OHC Type4.

I also met Rolf and Kurt Hassmann. Kurt still races his 1303

I'll never forget the battles between Walter Schäfer (Type1) vs. Dr. Josef Gerold (Type4). Those were the good times. Walter lives not far from me, he still has his car. He was at the Jochpass Memorial Hillclimb Race for some time but does not race on regular basis. Josef still has his cars too, I heard he had health problems but seems to be OK again. At the Käfer-Cup he used to race the 1302 (painted pink inside). We called that car "Doc 1". Later he built "Doc 2" (painted turquoise inside), a Monster of a 1303. He participated at the german Divinol Cup together with some other survivors of the Käfer Cup.

This is a shot of my friend Elmar Sperber (P.I.P. buddy), he really was a hell of a driver...

Saludos,
Ole

wow, thanks for the pics and the cool background information!  Grin

For a while (in the 90's), I was in regular contact with Klaus Morhammer who was one of the organizers, but I never got a chance to get too much from him as far as pics or videos.  I did get several of the official race posters from the series which are framed and hanging on my garage wall.

I thought you were getting the rear fenders that had the Testarossa cheese grater air scoops built into them?
