i am looking for pics of headliners. in magazines they mostly forget to take pcs showing the headliners. i want them to have some new ideas for mine. i have a custom brown one, but the problem is the material is a bit too airtight and pulls itself down when the windows are opened. so i need to have it perforated or put in a pice of perforated fabric.

but i wanted to see what has been done to other cars, as i would like to keep it brown and not go back to the white stuff.

thanks

Nicolas, what did you end up doing with your headliner?

This past Saturday, I decided to finally do something about my nasty stained white one. I dyed it black. Eventually, I'll have a white one installed... one with the correct stitching around the rear window. But for now, I'm very pleased how it came out. I also dyed the sun visors and replaced the white visor clips, coat hangers, and grab handles, and inner pop-out window seals (pinch welting) with black ones. Then, I dyed the ¼ window pop-out knobs to black. At least for the time being, the interior has a more uniform and finished look. In the distant future, after my built engine and transmission... I'll put the proper gray carpet and white headliner back in. For now, however, it looks as though Darth Vader has decorated the inner-sanctum of my '67. EVERYthing is black.

Even from the outside view, the new headliner color is noticeable. Here's a shot from today.

Not a problem, Ian... I have some left over black dye. I can drive over and take care of that. Speaking of your headliner, do you have plans for a mohair or are you going with something else?

That headliner looks soooo much better! I like it! Say... my 15 year old dog has alot of gray hair around his nutsack area. Could you give me a few pointers on dyeing them? He dribbles a lot of pee in that region, could that be a problem? Embarrassed

Sheesh... if it's the dog, let it be. If yours, shave. BAM! No more gray follicles.

 Grin

Thanks, vdubkid. I like it a lot mo' better, now. Now people don't point and laugh 'cause my car looked like a hood/rat ride. Now, they just point and laugh at me and leave my car alone. Life is good.

(edit) Oh and pee is a trippy thing. It's sterile, but acidic. Keep that in mind. If you get a telegram out to the right people... you'll get help.

Sorry to say Fred but you could have removed those stains quite easily. My 67 was worse and it looks like new after a good scrub with this and a (very) small amount of water. As a bonus it smells really good and fresh afterwards;

This isn't my picture (thanks to Google), but I used the flat black. Took two cans.

BeetleBug, I would've been shocked if that worked on my car. I've been detailing/cleaning cars since I was six years young and I usually get 95% of headliner stains removed. I tried even some very harsh chemicals, which typically work, on my car. But no luck. Thanks for that tip, though. Don't know if that product is available in the States, but I'll keep an eye out for it.
