Get a piece of wooden dowel a little larger than the hole in the end of the distributor drive. Hammer it in and work it back and forth to pull the shaft out. Failing that, cry, take an overdose and buy a Subaru.

oil pump is already out but no nut  Sad mine is the later style cam gear so there's not much room around the gear - I think its on top of the cam gear as I can hear it rattling when I trun it over by hand - I am lucky in the fact that its a doomed nut and doesn't seem to be getting stuck - I am sooooooooooo pissed off at myself  Angry

Good idea dude just like it says in the Haynes manual - I was holding back from "hammering" things  Wink Smiley

the thing is i can get it to move upwards fairly easily it just seems to get stuck about half way  Angry I have already put a couple of "marks" in the drive gear  Roll Eyes

You need to go in through the fuel pump hole with a screwdriver and hold the dizzy drive shims down as you pull the drive up,they will not go past the brass gear

"Doomed" & "trun" are the new pwned.

 Grin

Monkiboy, glad to hear that inverting the engine fixed your problem. Sounds like it was rather frustrating up until that point.
