I'm doing a bachelor degree Mechanical Engineering and I'm having examns this and next week, so I'll be learning learning learning... Sad

But I'm also gonna mount the EMPI header + California style muffler mr. postman delivered this morning... Cheesy
Not the best quality in the world I know, but it definately looks a lot better than a stock exhaust. And I'm sure it will look good in combination with the Fat Lips and Shorrock...

I'm almost ready to fit it, but one @#$%! bolt refuses to cooperate...  Angry

...or maybe it was just a candy shot!  Grin
Here is what my work bench really looks like.
On the to do list this weekend: Adjusting cam gear on my 2387 and measure the compression height of the cylinders so they are ready for cutting. Installing carpet.
The engine on the left is an 1835 I assembled yesterday evening. Hopefully I will find some heads for it this weekend and start porting them (just ported stock heads).

On the to do list this weekend: Adjusting cam gear on my 2387

I don't know if I should laugh or cry but nothing, I really mean NOTHING on my engine fits like it should. The first thing I was about to assemble on my new engine was the cam gear but of course it didn't fit. Look at the washer, try to get a bolt thru the washer and thru the gear. WHAT HAPPENED TO QUALITY CONTROL??? I cut no corners when I build an engine for myself, everything is supposed to be top notch, but it fails anyway. The cam gear is a CE and when I called Sven-Olov Brorsson he had the exact same problem.
I have scrapped parts for my engine for over $2000 before it even got used. I think I can CNC machine new washers so this part is possible to save.

That is just incredible... Shocked  I have heard so much good stuff about CE.. and now this?

Does any one know whether there are some companies that make straight cut cam gears like VW makes theirs... you know, to compensate for the differences between engine case's (machining).

Hi all!

After doing a little VW-break, I started working on the drag car yesterday. My gearbox needs the whole treatment (strong axles, new R/P, new synchros...) I dismanteled the gearbox, no problems here, thanks to my recently acquired (almost) full set of Peiseler gearbox-tools. If only the gear oil wouldn't smell that bad! Did you know the difference between tool VW 294 and VW 294a? Me too, but that changed... Huh They are both tools for adjusting the shifting-forks (spell?) , the 294 (which I have)  is for the early Pinion bearing (4-bolts) the 294a for the later version (big groove nut). Guess what's my gearbox version... Angry

Saludos,
Ole

P.S. did I mention gear-oil smells really bad?

Jon, as far as I know noone is doing that, they are all one "size". That is, by the way, the reason why some straight cuts are really loud and some otheres aren't. It's not the gear, it's the case! I heard mine inside the car better than from the outside – pretty disapointing... Wink Hope that will change with the new engine... Grin

I and Zany went to Örnsköldsvik, 180 km north and visited Silver and Messias. We had a few beers and chatted and looked at Silvers cars. Got home today and went to my garage to weld some rust I had under the bumper brackets. Here is Silvers 58 vert.
