a little dash knob question
«
on:
July 08, 2008, 19:32:14 pm »
Hi guys,
My car is a 72 and I want to give my dash a proper older look. I have two knobs left on my dash... the knob for the 4 turn signals and the one for my headlights, 2 stands. I can screw the plastic/rubber knobs of... Can I mount on these 2 switches the more older looking knobs? For example, the old wooden knob set of empi....?
Thx,
Dem

i have no idea what you are saying , but i have come up with this suggestion to what i think you might mean ......
you want to get rid of steering coloumn stalks ??
have you thought of using early dipped/main beam foot-switches ?
you can get rid of ALL the switches with a little thought .....

The Early knobs will screw on but will wiggle around the later cars have a sleeve on the late knobs all you can do if you dont want the big knobs is use a 67,68,69 type 3 dash knobs they are flat with the dash I am assuming you dont have a padded dash anymore?

that's right, I don't have a padded dashboard anymore...
I will test it, shubee, thx
Any other suggestions how I can place the older knobs? maybe change the switches? or are the holes in the dash also different?

The holes in the Dash Are Bigger plus the early switches are wired different

just screw on the early knobs
as they fit fine
(maybe the switch threads are longer on us spec cars, due to padded dashs?)

hey call me if you like the older ones, because the 70's have a bigger pin for the wiper swicth as the older ones. i have the same problem with the 67. pre67 is small and one speed and afterwards it was 2 speed and after 67 they were bigger. so 67 is one year only (all on type3's anyway, but i think beelte is similar as i have looked through a lot of switches.) but the empi wooden ones came for early and late models i think so you need to get the right ones. and the 4 flasher light is lit, but that is not an issue as you can put in a regular style. maybe post up some pics to know sizes.
BTW i made my own wooden buttons

very interesting... I was also thinking about making it myself but I don't have a clue how... I would do it in aluminium I guess because I don't have any other stuff in wood + I have a monster tach and other autometer 90's style insturments, so wood and this style of autometer is a no go I think...
I will pb you nicolas...
