Anyone got any tips for shaving the hood handle? I figure I can just weld the latch thingy to the underside of the hood. The other option would be to weld some studs to the hood so I can bolt the latch to it. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

My body shop buddy did this for me on my 61 sedan back in 1972. He brazed countersunk bolts in, filed off the high spots and leaded it in. That effectively made stud on the inside.

If you got your mind set on it! I would strip the bracket that bolt's to hood with miradic acid to get cad plateing off, any time you weld something with cad , strip it before welding. hammer handle area on hood flat. then bolt on and line up latch so it work's properlly then weld latch to hood. try useing silican bronze tig rod or mig. not my favorite custom deal to do to a car but , to each is own. there's no real bitchen way to do it.

Thanks Danny for the input. That is a good tip on the cad plating, I would not have known to do that.

Thanks,

Louis are still looking in on metal meet .com cool sight huh.

Yeah, my biggest problem with metalmeet.com is I keep getting side tracked with stuff that has no relation to my car. There is a HUGE 2' 1/2" by 2' oak stump sitting in the middle of my garage waiting on me to carve it up to try tuck shrinking. I get obsessive about things and if I am not careful I will be off on some tangent trying to hand form a '67 vert decklid out of Aluminum.  Grin  (Which as soon as I can afford an e-wheel I do want to try.) It is a great site with a great bunch of people. I have already learned a a lot there.

I would not have been able to fill in this turn signal hole without any filler from what I have learned there.

Not too bad for a noob.  Smiley

Here is the one I used to learn how to weld thin metal with the MIG.

http://metalmeet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=798&highlight=welding+thin+metal

Really, best thing to do is go there and register and then just search. There is so much info there. From talking with an artist that works with copper I think I have found a way to repair the cracks in my SB12s since they are chrome plated copper. Like I say, a bunch of good info.

Okay, I will keep that in mind. The solder that was recommended to me should work for either. I am going to give it a try and if it doesn't work I am not out much.

Thanks,

what's the lead for?

Bridgit solder, not lead. To fill in the crack in the bezel where the head light screw is located. Small crack but I think I can fix it.
