48mm intake, 48 IDA

Ciao a tutti,

now my 2332cc motor setup is the following:
044 heads 44 x 37
1,1:4
FK87
48 IDA, welded and ported manifolds

I'm thinking to change these heads with the SuperFlow 48 x 38 but I have some doubts about its right working. My question is: are too large the 48mm intake valves for run with 48 IDA? Vice versa, are too small the 48IDA for the 48 valves?

Try it out. You can always bore your IDA's out to 51.5 or 52mm

If the super flows are unported you should have no problems running the 48's. The 48's are only limiting the HP above 220-230 hp and the 52:s should be good up to 270-280. I would recomend 46 mm venturis to get max power (the rule of thumb is 2 mm less than the intake valve).

48 mm intake valves in S/F heads  and running "just" 48 IDAs NO PROBLEM !

My heads flow like....yiihaa    and along with 38mm exhaust works great ! On my girlie 2165cc !

What kind of retainers, springs and keepers are recommended for these heads? We are talking about a 220-230HP motor.....

Bugpack 4046 springs and bugpack titanium retainers is a good and failrly cheap option.

useing 10degree collets is a nice option but also conected with chcanging valves... as I know some CB heads have them i standard option (10degree collets, chromoly retainers and duals HD springs).

I agree with Roman about that Bug Pack stuff...

jim is very right the 4046 part# is a regular vw dual valve spring that wont be near enoughf spring presiur for 48x38. if you have the buks this is the cool set up for your combo.if you want the ultimate lite steel valve instead of going to( PRICEY TIT VALVES) go with 7mm stem valves STEEL manley custom stainless way ligthter than your commen 8mm or 11/32. next use manley super 7 tit bead loc keppers with chev styl tit ret to match the super 7s. you need to run the k800 spring  thers no way of getting around it. you need  180 lb seat preser and 400 nose presure to keep the steel valve from floating. if you are runing the bigger stem valves and the boat ankor keepers and retainers you will have to up the nose and seat presers. reg vw dual springs only have 130to150seat and 350nose thats a good set ther not all that way not engoghf for what you are doing. just trying to help good luck with your project.   yours truly ugly duckling.

and yes your reg 48s will work with the 48mm intake not a problem for now but if you wanted to step up later with the 51s it will make more power thats if the heads are fully done up as far as port work.
