Sarge, I was just sitting next to you in my stroller when you took your pictures at the Bug-Ins! Don't you remember?  Grin
No, they were taken by a friend of me who happend to be there in 1970 and 1971. At that time cars like that were totally unknown in Germany. A rather subtle Cal Looker wasn't that interesting for him. But he took pics of race cars as well!  Cool

BTW, shouldn't you in bed by now? Or are you up already?  Grin

I don't think so too. But some of the japanese The Winning Bugs club cars use 70s custom elements mixed with Cal Look. At least interesting...

Georg.

I really like the '70's thing, but not too much Wild Custom stuff.

I think a mix of Custom & Old School is what will happen next?

Then all the crazy '70's stuff I have will be back in fashion.

    Gotta love the 70's. Grin

That GTV makes me cringe!!!!!!!!

Fabs, in the first VW Trends there is the "Midnight Runner" I think it was called... a late model custom dark blue bug that was also claimed to be a GTV Cry If you have it, could you scan it?

Very interesting thread! & Georg, your pictures are AWESOME  Cool!

I think that time has come for a little change... I'd like to see more of 70's customs bugs these days...

Are some projects in the making?

 I hope so too...

Some of the elements of these cars is pretty cool. At the time I'm sure they were the 'cutting edge' of style in the VW Scene?

But everything changes and tastes over time evolve. What do you think people would have made of 'Rat Look' back in the '60s & '70s?

I'm a big fan of the GTV type of style. Also the Formula Vee models and accessories are very well thought out and stylish.

It would be really great to see some of these models recreated in todays scene. I've thought the '70s would come again for some time now and look forward to a new direction for part of the current scene.

Who will be different enough to take the '70's route I wonder?   Grin

Check out this Formula Vee. Is that not a thing of beauty?

 Good for you..

When people see Bugs like this again on a more regular basis they will realize (as they did in the '70s) that you can have a very nice Bug for not alot of money.

I also have more than enough Formula Vee and empi stuff to build more than afew 'Replicas'.

When time permits I might get to it. (next year for sure)

There's nothing Ugly about that Beetle........ Wink
