I love Mason's drumming, but if you removed Nick from Floyd, I don't think he'd impress. With Nick it was all timing of downbeat with Roger's bass (the "heartbeat" of Floyd's sound). Some of his fills do flow and thunder with the best of them, but I think Mason was best at accenting Floyd's quiet and creepy qualities, his ride cymbal technique in songs like "Eugene" just fit!

So many great drummers out there... but, yes; Taylor Hawkins and David Grohl are two notable ones, for sure.

I also think Neil Peart is a technical genius, but Chad Smith is the ultimate groove master:)

I would go with Bonham, mainly because I share the same last name...

True story, no joke.  My dad's father's name was John; but by no means any relation to the legendary Led Zep drummer.  I used to have people all the time ask me if I was related to the drummer when I was 10, 12 years old.

so many amazing drummers...a few of my faves have allready been mentioned...neil peart, stewart copeland, mitch mitchell, animal, buddy rich...add to that nick "topper" headon....

as far as the op's question goes it's bonham > moon.

but for me, personally, my all time favourite and most influentual is dave grohl (nirvana, foo fighters, queens of the stone age, probot)!

For me its Steve white!  But its probably more to do with the style of music he has played in his career.
