Hello to everyone,

I plan to build an oldschool 1776ccm, but have some questions and would like to hear some opinions...

Connfiguration:

90,5 P&C
69mm stock crankshaft (non counterweight)
Engle 120 camshaft (9:1 compresion for European 95 octane gasoline)
stock 1:1.1 rockers
HD springs (titanium ?)
Equalizer pulley (Gene Berg or CB Performance)
DRD L3 or DRD L5 heads, single HD springs
AC.NET alu pushrods
lightweight valvetrain
full flow
stock heaters (only with DRD L3 heads)
Dell'Orto DRLA 40 carbs
Mallory Unilite with vacuum
A1 Sidewinder exhaust

Have somebody done something similar recently ?

A few month ago I had opportunity to try 1835ccm with Engle 130 cam and Dell'Orto DRLA 40, that engine hauled ass and idled smooth and had good torque from 2500 rpm to about 7000 rpm...
After that, a know that I don't want Engle 110, a little more duration is more fun !

Opinions (crank, camshaft & pulley) ?

P.S. Of course, all rotation parts will be balanced !

The heater boxes will kill it.

Crank will be fine,but its worth the extra money for counterweighted version if you want to regularly turn high rpm,I have only used the berg pulley,they are well made and fit unlike some of the black copies

I second Ritchie. Use a counterweighted crank, if you go anymore than W110 on the cam. Be sure to use light lifters too in that set up. Otherwise normal HD single springs will not handle the rpm.

Stock heaterboxes dont nescessarily kill the pakage with LS3 heads. Just dont yank the CR to the limit. -  9 - 1 is OK.

I agree with Richie and Torben.

I would choose the DRD L5 heads,ban the heaters run a 1 3/8 header system,c/w crank,w120 and run 1.25 rocker.

Am building something similar oldskool but a 1700cc engine
Almost the same with scat mini wedge heads 40x35 ported and polished

The most critical thing is the non-counterweight crank, but I wouldn't use it with W120 without equalizer pulley, just to ballance things a little bit !
Other option is to buy a Web cam 163 and build a less rewing engine... Smiley

why the non counterweight crank?
what's your #  1 priority with this future motor?
I would seriously consider counterweighting and balancing a good orig VW x-drilled crank, and balance rest of motor too.
Do you already have the 40mm carburetors?

I think he has a nice set of Dellortos 40 DRLA ex Alfa 33 carbs which do need the right venturies,jets and proper rebuilding.

I consider non-counterweiht crank because I allready have it in the box, it's a NOS item...ballance work is a not excluded option... Cool

O yes, i have several sets - including Dell'Orto DRLA 36, 40, Weber 40 IDF and Solex 40 PII  Cool Cool Cool
For that odlschool motor I consider using Dell'Orto 40's...

Then stay with the LS3 heads and use a Web 163. And keep 9 -1 CR. Better overall combo, that will pull where the engine likes to be.
