ok, who knows everything I need to about vacuum pumps for street/strip use, is there an off the shelf kit available, either belt driven or electric? Looking for something that will work with the standard generator stand still in place,
regards

i was looking at the moroso one on samba .
decided against it , mainly due to looks ... yes , i'm vain
electric one can be had for about the same as a moroso from jegs etc.
not sure they'll pump enough though . (will check for you)
for all-out street use i wouldnt bother .....
you know you have to build the engine to suit ?? its not just a bolt on mod

Dave Dinnings got one from Shawn geers, its costly and i am not sure it will fit around cooling/charging systems, you need low tension rings and to re jig you crankcase breathing to suit
cheers richie

On Shawn's 'street' car he does have a pump fitted but with a central mounted fan housing/alternator..
I love that engine, apart from the chrome tinware!! The idea is great though as I'm all for keeping cooling on a motor hence why I have with ours. Thats definately a set-up i'd be looking into if we ever upgrade our motor!
Jaycee also makes a vacuum pump set-up and I 'think' he uses a Product Engineering pump same as Shawns..??

i think shawn gets em from jack , or is that something else .
the reason the moroso looked good was the inlet and outlet are somethink like 90 degrees , so it COULD fit aside the alt stand , and have both hoses facing upwards ....

I've done a bit of reading up on these devices, and was aware of the advantages of low tension rings (although a few people seem to think that you can use them without l/t rings but you gain more power with them) but what do you have to do to re-configure the breathing system? I'm just looking for ways to make more power from a given displacement.
cheers for the input

you need to seal the case for them to work
pump 1/2 to baffled tank , pressure equalize 3/4 . iirc

The recommended vacuum "pull" seems to be around 15" of mercury, but this is for american V8's with big pistons and lots of them! Do you need as much vacuum with less crankcase volume? Less vacuum means a smaller pump and less weight and even the possibility of using an electric pump with no draw on engine horsepower although i am a bit dubious as to the vacuum available from the currently available electric pumps, apart from the mega expensive $1600 24v version out there. Small motorcycle pumps are available too.
cheers
