There have been a few images that have done it for me. Those include the famous Jim Holmes shot with him wearing the California T-shirt, the wheelie shot of Gary Berg's street car at the Bug-In; there was a street driving shot in VW Greats magazine showing a flamed late model named "Genghis Kon" that really showed the rake and look; but I think the shot(s) that does the most is one of the rear of the car, with the decklid open, showing tall IDAs and a huge mag lurking out, and the owner adjusting the linkage or timing. To me, that brings the viewer right into the mood, wishing he was that guy making those small adjustments on that killer engine.

This pic does it for me. It was taken by Mike Ishiko at the VolksWorld Show in 2007, the show and the photo hold a lot of good memories for me personally. Thanks to Russell for popping the Gates of Heaven car into the shot as well Smiley

I have a question... where was this picture originally taken from? Looks like possibly from someone's old D.K.K. album.

Location could be either Whittier or near Craig Park.

I don't remember where this pic come from, I found it in my computer Grin But it certainly comes from the The Lounge.
no never seen on the lounge nico  Roll Eyes

I was sure to get it there, and that you may have scan it  Grin ! I'll try to find where I get it.

The picture is from thesamba.com (?): http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=282348&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=40

Maybe yes, but I rarely go on the samba, I think a firend of mine send it to me, he may get it on samba.

That photo of the three cars together was a little rough around the edges, so I Photo Shoped the bullet holes, scratches and dings out of it, before it went into the new book. Believe it or not, I never saw that photo until earlier this year, when KS sent it to me! That photo was taken after I sold my '67 to Julie Martin, so I wasn't there for the photo shoot. Location was the old Fleming & Aronson parking lot on Howell Street (their shop was directly behind the three cars, where the station wagen is parked). Serious California Look to be sure.

Agreed, John. One of the fastest and best looking ragtops EVER. Gotta love the "48" on the rear window too. Rather fitting.

I thought these were pretty Iconic for their time.  The first one is the burn out heard round the world at VOA headquarters in Michigan.  The second one was of four performance modified VWs right in front of the main entrance to VOA headquarters.

I know lose the roof rack...

When I think about the scene and all the years it's been getting guys fired up, I tend to think of that picture. Good call.

What picture sums it all up for you??

Captures what you feel Cal Look and/or VW's are all about??

It can Vintage or Current...

Let's see what we all think.

This Pic is one of my  current Favourites.  Wink   I love the the way the cars are crammed in... with people all over them.

And look at the Grandstand! Not a spare seat to be had anywhere.

The black 62 is mine, I drove it from Oregon and won a plaque in cal-look

Don't whether you'd say it's iconic, but it's one of my favourites. A hot bug, chilling in the warm sun (something I don't get much of), just sets a tone i'd like to aspire too.
