Runs with Scissors

« on: September 08, 2008, 15:08:31 pm »

So summer is winding down for most of us and even though its still 95 deg here, cooler weather (I hope) is just around the corner. Winter is the time when projects big and small get done. So what do you plan to do this winter to your VW(s).

Besides my regular job I started teaching a course at the local UNI which is soaking up a lot of time. Not to mention it is the US Football season here so half of Saturday and most of Sunday are shot watching the games. Even so I hope to get the pan done in the next month or so. Then it will be time to start on the body repair. Looks like I will have a week or two off during Dec which will be a good time to make some serious progress. There is also our big car show here in the SE USA to look forward to in November. With luck I will score some stuff at the swap meet that I need for the project.

I came to realize that I'm never going to build the 2110 myself anytime soon, so this winter it is being built by a real engine builder.  Other than that, the car itself is going in the garage and I'm locking the doors for a while!   Undecided

Who did you decide to have build it? I have been thinking the same myself lately.

actually after the few last projects in my garage go away, that's it. It's going to be a garage for storing our Honda and my VW.... no more parts to trip over and mag shavings to breathe. I'm hoping as well as it runs now, that's a good indication I won't get bored and do something like drop the motor out again. Besides, by the time I finish Sheep's motor, I'm going to need a walker.

Ohio Tom Simpson is going to do it, he's done a lot of good work building reliable horsepower for our small group here in PA—including Maize's 2276 in the orange '67.  I am quite excited, just worried that I'm going to spend too much money gathering the remaining pieces I need.

Yeah he seems to know what he is doing. I am still kicking the idea around.

I need to finish the wiring and modify my exhaust header.

Spray two doors, fit either one piece windows or vents, I have both just need to make up my mind.

Too much to list.  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I hoped to make the pan of my next project this summer, but to much professional job and not enough time.
And winter is synonym of lot's of work for me.

I hope to sandblast and weld the pan next month. Then start to adapt brakes and put it on his wheels.
I also start to restore a moped I buy some years ago.

Or maybe I will start my bay window. It's so useful.

AS far as my 67 goes, I hope to get the crack in the decklid paint repaired (the fan belt came off and smacked it from the inside a couple years ago) and maybe detail the fron hood/spare wheel well. I also need to finish some stuff up my fiance's Acapulco Thing. I have time, I'll get some work done on my race bug. I've collected up almost all the parts I need.  And on top of that, I need to help my 15 year old brother get his '69 bug up and running for when he gats his liscense in February.
