As you may have read Ive been very lucky to take on the looking after and preserving of Doug's Wocket, cant wait....

Heres some pictures of ME Helping Doug get it ready for Classic this year and fastbrit drinking and sleeping again in the car, it must be his age.  Grin

yes sure was, even featured in Volksworld and Hot VWS many years ago....

Most likely place to unveil "again" will be either Volksworld 09 or EBI 3 but again this may change......

Now Now John, the car is being passed on as is and hopefully will keep its stickers, the car will alway be Dougs and a DKP3 car regardless of the owner and i would like to keep this little bit of history together so when it parks next to Arnies DKP1 car with stickers it shows the qualitly level of this very famous club over the years.

I know that the rules suggest that the stickers should be removed if the car is sold to a non club member but as Im a collector and wanting to keep the car as is it shouldnt make any differance, you will never see me pretending to be a DKP car club member even if i would truly love and would be honured to be part of such a great club with great people.... alas i live 5000miles away so this is always going to be unlikly, however i can always dream......

As far as I know they have always been there. The rears were widened to 7" (before FF offered them in 6 1/2").

Oboy.  Well, for those who don't already know [both of you] I have a reputation for doing everything twice. [Surprised nobody posted the VW Speed article - they called me "Mr. Twice Guy"]

The first attempt at repairing the pan went horribly wrong.  A baterry only half-panel was welded in and not done well.  Then, my good pal Jerry, who was going to help me pick the pan up and take it to be powdercoated did me a 'favor' and delivered it to them without me to save time.  When I picked it up a week later, what I picked up was a beautifully powder-coated ugly pan which became affectionately known as "Frankenpan".  It was that ugly.  Uglier.  The body mount flanges weren't even straight, and the welding was atrocious.  Had I seen the pan before powdercoat, it would never have gone to Olympic.

I set it up in the garage, assembled it with all the powdercoated suspension pieces and the Berg 5-speed and the Flat 4 BRM's, and I looked at it, and Looked at it, and for 3 months I could not get past the fugliness.  Supportive neighbors [not car guys] said, "It'll be underneath; nobody will know."  I'll know.

Finally, I couldn't stand it anymore, I stripped it down, took it to Darren at BFY and told him to have the thing stripped, the pans halves cut off, and the best new ones he could find welded in, then have it re-powdercoated.  Apparently, a guy working there though I was nuts to do it all over, and started calling me Crazy Pan Guy.  The name stuck, and one day, at a show in Orange, this guy yells out, "Hey, it's Crazy Pan Guy!'  I'd never heard my new nickname until then, but the guys I'd gone to that show with made sure I heard it plenty after that.

But that was only the beginning:  The body was painted - twice, the front end was done 3 times, the motor was done three times, and I've had 8 different exhaust systems on the car.  Why?  Because all of it just wasn't right.

I'm pretty sure I could have built that car for half what I have in it.

Hope this isn't too boring.  Wouldn't have bothered, except Mike asked...
