Found this pic posted on another forum...
Apparently looking scrapped & sitting on a Kent driveway Shocked
Was it so badly damaged that it was beyond repair or is it an `in progress` pic?

Ah no, thats not the chassis i meant! I know there is another Maher chassis in Kent and that is in very good hands. Its not a drag race chassis and used stock pans, was on display as a roller at VolksWorld show about 7 years ago.
I know nothing of the tube chassis drag car?!?!

The tube chassis wasn't harmed
Bodywork suffered minor damage and was easily patched up

Taught me a lesson I shouldn't have needed to learn... NEVER EVER ignore a handling problem...  Shocked

Previous meet the car had been running great (10.95 @125mph - n/a 2165cc)

Next meet it had a tendency to pull to one side on each gearchange, resulting in me backing off each time well before the finish line...
Tried numerous adjustements and fixes in the pits but to no avail
Last qualifying session came round and I was up against Karl Donovan
Put my pig-headed attitude in place and decided the car was going to the finish line with the throttle depressed all the way, whether it liked it or not...
Really BAD idea....    Angry
Got out of shape, did the zig-zag-zig routine, went up one one side, came back on all four wheels and went over on the other side, finally ending back right side up
My own stupid fault for ignoring the problem  Embarrassed

Shaun at VW Scene fixed up the bodywork and I raced the car again at Avon Park
Must have been 1993/4??
Gene Berg was at the meet

Sold the car shortly after
Never heard of it again until seeing it mentioned here
Guy who bought it (James Rudland??) used to race a Baja in the VWDRC 'Kits & Specials' class
... or 'Any Old Shit' class as we used to call it back in those days   Wink

=======================================

Prowagen - the floorpan chassis mentioned above was part of my Mexi Beetle project.... brand new bodyshell and floorpan. Chassis was on display at the Volksworld show many years ago, complete with Berg 5 and mocked up Autocraft turbo EFI motor.

The Mex is now owned by Dave Forder. He persuaded me to sell it after his supercharged 1303 was destroyed in a garage fire at his home

Engine will be in the works shortly - 2332cc, turbocharged, intercooled, EFI etc

Dave has taken the whole project way further than I'd planned for my own use.

One to look out for!

Thanks for that John Cool
Would be nice to see the oval back out, its annoying to see stuff like that go to waste.
Cheers,

I remember the crash. Sitting in the stand behind the tree.

It was a sad moment

Somebody mentioned that it was in the hands of another great VW drag racer from back in the day

Thats why I said it was in good hands, I know Daves old 1303 was a real piece of work, Dave is a great bloke and I have seen some of the progress pics of your old mexi floor and its amazing! Not sure it will get much of rise on a cal look forum though lol
I for one cannot wait to see the finished article.

Wonder what the other guy has planned for your old drag car!
