Imagine a 2180 bolted to a floorpan, a gas can bungee-corded to the handbrake and a 2x4 propping the steering column up.
How far ya think you could get before you were in jail?

About 3 KM's.
It takes the law about 5 KM's to pull me over for exhaust issues...

There is a photo of Lowry carrying the wheels of a floorpan he was driving in the EMPI parking lot. My guess is he wasn't shy about going fast in it, or on it, to be exact.

I've done a bit more than 6kms on a pan, towed by another car with a simple rope.
I needed to bring a pan back from a rented garage to my parent's house, and didn't have any other option at the time.
I remember it was freezing cold. Shame I don't have scanner, I have some nice pictures.

Well this really happened, in the tunnel connecting Alameda and Oakland, in northern CA. I was hoping Tony Mace would log on and tell the story. he originally told it to me years ago, this guy that Tony worked with was bored one night, got all worked up, stuffed his 48IDA motor into a pan, slid a seat on and went for it. I guess he was approaching 100mph on a floorpan in the tunnel when a cop saw him and nailed him.
Imagine the wind drag.

I wonder what sort of ticket you would get for that and what the police would write on the ticket as far as the make of the vehicle goes.

This is a true story - My long time buddy Mark did this in 1975 - 2180 ida motor - milk crate for a seat - out for a nut ride - Lost his license for that one - and almost went to jail - ended up with out a license for over 15 years - never stoped him - This guy is a nut case -

Couple of friends of mine have done the driving a floorpan thing - up and down their street to start with, then a little bit further, down to the traffic island at the end of the main road. Their Dad got back from work, told them off for driving the pan (even though they were in their late 20's at the time!) then had a go himself. Of course, he was the one who got stopped by the police... Was told to go home and that he was old enough to know better!
