Yesterday I started cleaning the barn I was renting for 20 years. I found a lot of nice (porsche) goodies for my project oval Yesterday evening I started fitting the gearbox, to have a measurement point i welded the horns back in place. Tha plan is to mount the gearbox a bit lower and further in the car.

Today I started where I left off the last time "fitting the gaerbox", after I took out half the axle tube, a piece of the IRS mounting point and grinding some unused gearbox ribs, the gearbox is in it's final place. de framehorns are gone again and the gearbox is fixed with some temporary supports.
Then I started fixing a support that goes under the bellhouse, I used original rubbers for measuring but in the future they will be replaced for the strong yellow type.
The last picture shows how I plan to mount it to the cage, this way I can do some small hight adjustments.
Paul.

After I was happy with the angle of the IRS brackets, I started welding the back.
To make the gearbox fit I had to cut a piece of the right IRS bracket. In the first, second and third pic. I am closing the piece that I earlier cut out. This pic. also shows that the torsiontube is cut in half and the holes where the the frame horn use to be.
The fourt pic. shows that the torsiontube is welded shut.

Turned the pan yesterday to do some welding on the underside.
I welded the IRS brackets on the inside, welded the middle of the torsion tube, welded the torsion tubes where they were narrowed and welded the holes where the framehorns use to be.
I had some T2a motorrubbers laying around, so I thought wy not use them to mount the gearbox. First I made a cardboard bracket.
Paul.

Today I finished the brackets for the gearbox rubbers and welded them to the torsion tube. Then started to fabricate the bracket that goes on the gearbox, but that's not ready for pictures yet.

The left side of the new gearbox nose bracket is finished, next on the list is the right side and then weld L+R together into one bracket.

The leftside of the gearbox bracket was ready but I still wasn't happy with it. today I gave it some weight saving treatment , now it's finished. Then i took out an extra little peice of the right IRS mount, now the gearbox is clear. ALso started with the rightside of the gearbox bracket. When this is ready I will weld Left and right together and also fix it to the top of the gearbox, this way I have one bracket that is fixed to the gearbox with 6 bolts and I finaly get rit of the rustet bracket. Paul

Are you not going to use framehorns Paul? What will support the weight of motor/trans?

No framehorns, the gearbox will be hanging on the rollcage, and the motor will have an extra mount to the rear bumper bolts. Paul.

Did some work on the gearbox mount again yesterday. I was not satisfied with the rubbers I used, so I had to modify the mounts to make the new rubbers fit. Also welded the left and rightside together and removed the rusty bracket. Just need to fix the top of the gearbox mount and then it's finaly ready Time for the next step.
