1/4 panel is welded up now. IRL it's pretty strait, even without filler. Also started repairing the innerwing, here it's almost finished Paul.

After the innerwing was done, it was time to start with the Porsche front beam. Porsche sheetmetal underneed the spare wheel well When the car is finished it should not have rake. Now it has a 3,6deg rake, this is why the arm has to be 3,6deg. as well. Bend and shaped 3mm steel tacked in. The innerwing has to come out a bid to reinforce the a-arm mounting point. Paul.

Why the 3 mm plate? Are you welding the bracket to it or are you going to make it a bolt on affair?

The sheet metal you are working with here will take a huge amount of weight/force during heavy braking. I guess the torsion bar mounts to the chassis in the other end. I would suggest to either box a structure all the way to the front firewall or even tie in the cage down there. As the weakest point would be in the body between the notch for the stock beam and the tank hole. Please keep sharing this cool project!

Hi JHU, The sheet metal is just the piece you see in the picture, there now is a piece on the right in the spare wheel well and when I am finished it has one on the left as well. I don't see how these small pieces will give problems during braking. When the new engine is ready, I will probably need more weight in the front The cage will also be welded to the new sheet metal you see in the spare wheel well. This is a '56 beetle, it has no tank hole Please keep sharing this cool project! I will, thanks

I am guessing that you will tie the upper strut mounting to the roll cage also? Nice work . . . glad to see your progress!

Looks like you're coming to the end of the main fab work now though Is it mostly finishing off type jobs now before starting body prep? Cheers Kev

there's a hole in the innerwing . I am going for 6-7deg.caster, -1camber and 0 toe in/out. Inside of the innerwing, not much space there. And ofcourse I needed to test a wheel. Paul.

Unfortunately I had to little space to move the spindle up n down. after some internet searching, I found out that the golf1 inserts will fit the Porsche strut and is 2" shorter. so I bought a used set to test fit. if it fits I can shorten the complete strut by 2". Paul.

Point of no return (again) I had planned to use more of the Porsche innerwing, but I did not have enough space. Now I only used the upper shockmount and made it 5cm higher. When I find the correct position I will weld it in the innerwing. Paul.
