I bought an EMPI wood rim steering wheel with the black padded horn push as well as an E-Z-R shifter and a set of wood dash knobs at a junkyard back in 1996 or so. I didn't have a socket with me that was big enough to take the wheel off and I didn't want to leave it, so I just took the whole steering column out!

I got a  69 x 88 engine from Pick Your Part about 15 years ago for 75 bucks. Rimco prepped case (stamped on rear thrust), DMS .010/.010 counterweighted crank and 12lb flywheel, Cima 88 machine-ins, Engle 120, lightly ported 040 heads with double springs and chromoly retainers, VW 1.25 rockers on Berg solid shafts. Carbs and exhaust were long gone. The crank ended up in my 1776, the 1.25 rockers and shafts  are on my daily driver right now and I sold the case, heads and P&Cs to my buddy Tim for $200.

Fooking good deal there!!!

I've never even really tried... all the yards around here have been picked clean.

I don't see many bugs in yards around here - there is a local VW breakers that buys complete virtually every aircooled vw that comes in. I know of a good Type 3 floorpan that's been up against the fence in a yard for the last few years, guy only wants £40, and I got a few repair panels, parcel shelf, steering box and some other bits from another yard a couple of years ago - they'd already been taken off but left under the bonnet!
