I know a painted roll cage looks great, but there was an article in HotVW's a few years back on rolcages (I think) probably a dune buggy special, and they mentioned several times you can't see cracks in the cage when it's painted. That's why they leave it bar metal.
I call on thee, almighty librarian, dig that article up

Its not teched yet but its fine, both of my pervious cages have been teched when painted. Plus i know it will pass
Dr Jeckill you see very few cars now with cages that are not painted/powder coated. They have laser/ultra sound type instruments to asses the cage and the depth of the metal, like they did with my old Ghia. Theres no way it would be left unpainted either

Sorry i think it a bit over the top when you paint the cage the same as the rest of the car.
But your right pink would look nice.

Good point actually
Would I need to get my home built cage teched before paint?
I`d have paperwork for the tubing.
Cheers,
Kev

they can test it painted dont worry. they will also test the material with a hardness tester, which will make a little dent in the paint, but they will do it out of the way.
just dont start grinding down the welds to make it all smooth! thats bad!.

Adele/Steve
Have a look at the outlaw website, quite a few pics of P.B's orange assault on the eye
My cage is going to be lotos white like the car, the lighter the colour of the cage/inside the "roomier" the interior appears
.....must stop watching these daytime DIY programmes now that I'm home

Hey dude, hope you are well
I've seen some cars with body coloured cages and it looks cool and then on others it looks awful, the colour of the car isn't a bright colour so it could work well but also there is alot of tubing there and it might be a bit full on! I've asked the painter for a 'quote' on painting it a different colour so once we know that we can go from there. Its kind of like we have come this far so lets just go a bit further but on the same token the line needs to be drawn somewhere as we've worked so hard to pay for everything so far but how much more money can we spend!!!

Ant makes a good point - what colour is the interior going to be? You've got a lot of aluminium in there... If that's going to be body colour too, then it could look washed out. I'd probably go for satin black - you want subtle, not shiny!

Yes I agree, but that has everything red including the floor wheras our floor will be gloss black. The seats and tinwork will be polished..

In that case I'd do the cage the same colour as the floor.
As long as it's not white, that's so 1980s rally car
Actually the reason rally cars do them white is for crack detection purposes I was told.
