Anyone ever noticed a dramatic difference between running a front runner, drag type tire on the front versus a 135 size tire?  |

Benefits of using drag tires such as frontrunners are, high speed rating 22" are shorter than 135's which will give you a better reaction time 23" are taller than 135's which will slow reaction time eg.(non pro tree) 135's are radials,when mixed with slicks will have more a tendancy to make the car darty and wander much lighter they look much cooler too  |

Is that true? Yes And is not legal,you should not mix bias ply[most slicks] with radials cheers richie |

I thought the law is don't mix radial/cross ply on a single axle.
I'll add some front runners to my shopping list then.

Is that true? Im running Sportman Pro's on the rear (cross plys) and 135 radials on the front. feel great at 145mph. Front runners offer less rolling resistance and allow you to set your front wheels with zero toe in. if you look at the the Front runners they arnt speed rated and the maufactures wont put a speed rating on them. We have had this argument in street eliminator. Ant is right you can have a mix of tire on the cars just not on the same axle. SO the benfit is less effort to push the car down the track. Martin. |

Radials on the front and big old baggy cross plys on the rear. Andy I remember that advert when it was on TV!!! Man i'm getting old!. |

The speed rating of a tyre is the measure of its ability to dissipate the heat which is generated under prolonged use at high rpm. I have had discussions before with both tech inspectors and tyre people about this and they all said (mind you, it was a few years ago...) that speed ratings as applied to road tyres are irrelevant in drag racing. The tyres do not revolve at speed long enough to generate sufficient heat to cause a problem – or so I was told by industry specialists.

Going to have to investigate this a little more. As Keith says im sure the 135 are safe at the speeds they are traveling at. Hell there only 10 years old! LOL

Touchin on this subject again. I have been running the math on the heigth of the front runners which go from 22.5, 24 and 26. All play a diiferent role in which tree you run and how your reaction time and roll-out affects what you are going for. I will be racing on the pro-tree most of the time, but not all of the time. I have also talked to a few guru's about this and how the heigth plays into personal scenarios. I am eluding to...I like to hear from people about this. Stories anyone |

I have 22.5" on my car, but if I would buy new ones I'd choose 24". They look better and the speedo gets a bit more accurate.
