I don't know what it is... but I know it isn't for the fuel reserve. Here is a pic of an oval dash...

It's either an optional cigarette lighter or some other accessory, I'm guessing. The fuel reserve lever is located on the firewall (vertical panel) at about 1 o'clock from the pedals, if it's a left hand drive car. Basically in the center of the wall, just above the tunnel.

I thought the knob next to the ignition swith was for the choke cable.
