What is the hole immediately to the left driver's side of the ignition switch hole? ... Reserve tank?

I don't know what it is... but I know it isn't for the fuel reserve. Here is a pic of an oval dash...

It's either an optional cigarette lighter or some other accessory, I'm guessing. The fuel reserve lever is located on the firewall (vertical panel) at about 1 o'clock from the pedals, if it's a left hand drive car. Basically in the center of the wall, just above the tunnel.

On this side of the pond it's wipers, lights, choke and ignition.
You have to have the passenger start the car for you.
