If you want to arrive a day or so earlier and need an overnight stop you're welcome here. As for the studs, that would be good, hopefully you'll get a few more runs in and make the trip worthwhile!

Though winter seems to be far from over the fact is that the race season is fast approaching so a quick note for our European friends about visiting the UK this year. We have had a few queries regarding this and some of you will have already have spoken to Martin (gold65turbo) but we had to finalise the 2009 race calendar before we were in a position to make any firm arrangements but having now done this we can get the ball rolling.

All things considered it looks as if the best event to come over for to either watch or run at is once again the Yanks Weekend / Gary’s Picnic at Shakespeare County Raceway. The event takes place over the weekend of the 29th through 31st of May so weather wise it falls at a good time of year and the event is firmly focused on drag racing so there is always a wide variety of cool cars on track. It’s not our own show but the club enjoys being there and has always been made to feel more than welcome besides which when Flat 4 power meets V8 power there's always some good grudge match action to be had. Gary's Picnic is run as a RWYB style meet which means that getting onto the track is a relatively straight forward affair though it should be noted that all cars will have to go through basic scrutineering similar to that at Das Drag Day and the European Bug-In. You will need a helmet and seat belts and the battery will need to be secured (preferably in a box if not under the rear seat) whilst all hoses such as those for the fuel system will need to be on tight with no leaks and components such as the steering will need to be secure. Please note that roll cages are not required but if fitted must be in good condition. We appreciate it's a way to come and obviously you can't see an oil or fuel leak with a photo we can run a few photos past a scrutineer for people if they have any questions on that front.

Regarding the question of travel we have already spoken to Norfolkline Dunkirque to Dover ferries as the club has previously had group discounts through them which we've used when heading to EBI or DAS Drag Day so we are trying to organise something similar for people wanting to come over here. In order to do this successfully though we will need to know who's planning to come over and how you’re planning to travel as soon as possible. That is to say whether it will be with a car, a car and trailer a van with trailer and also how many people are travelling in the vehicle. If we could get an idea of which day people are planning on travelling that would be handy as it would be good if people could meet up the same day for the crossing. If you're thinking of coming please get in touch with us and let us know, the earlier we can arrange something the better the discount we'll get. We also need to know who’s coming so we can notify the event hosts as to how many VWs will be there so we can get a good spot in the pit area for everyone, we are also in the process of arranging some kind of discount with the track.

Hi Outlaws!

I hope I can make it to Garry's Picnic, I'll never forget the fun I had last year Cheesy

But this time it'll be without my race car...   Undecided

I just had to move and start a new job, it'll take some time to get things sorted out, so no racing for me this season  Cry

Anyway, looking forward to see you crazy folks again, watch out for the red beer-bus.... Wink Grin

It'll be good to see you, same as with Udo if you need somewhere to stop over let me know. Just thinking, if you come over with an empty trailer you could always take something back ...

In the meantime all the best with the new job.  Smiley

It's about 120 miles from Dover to our place so if you think it'll be better to stop overnight nearer the track there's always that option.
