Does anyone know of a company that makes a 1 3/4 header that clears the apron and all the stock cooling tin? Berg used to make them but they don't seem to have any in stock.
Thanks,

.... all the stock tin including the shields that go between the case and original heater boxes? I don't think Gene Berg had that configuration in 1-3/4" tubes. The largest was 1-5/8", they made it to clear the stock thermostat. I remember calling Berg's in 1992 or 93 asking if they sold a 1-3/4" like the 1-5/8", and got Gene on the phone, who wasn't too friendly and made some comment about "why would I sell a 1-3/4" header designed to fit a street car, when there are NO street cars that need a 1-3/4" header?" Doesn't just about everybody today offer a heater-box merged in 1-3/4" that clears all that stuff? Bugpack for sure.

Eh, maybe it was a 1 5/8s that cleared the stock tin. Dont really need heater boxes. I like the dual QPs that BP has. I may look at their 1 3/4 header.

I have an 1 3/4" Berg that clears the top tin but it's a standard 'merged' underneath so the bottom cool tins won't fit and the J tubes run under the pushrods, not the heads.

The 1-3/4 I bought from Proformance clears the pulley and the rear tin too, which my old Phoenix did not. I had to cut the rear tin.

my bugpack 1 1/2" runs underneath the pushrods as well, perhaps that says something about the brand and their other headers?? i figured running the same tins as the lower front ones will suffice...

A1 Lowdown 1 3/4" header clears the apron and pulley tin but runs under the pushrod tubes. http://www.vwparts.net/A1T1000C.htmlI have a 1 3/4 Berg heater box exhaust and it clears all the stock tin and thermostat.

I think just Berg and A1 offer a true 1 3/4" heater box exhaust. I know for sure Bugpack has a 1 5/8" header but the heater boxes are only 1 1/2".

Nice looking engine. I am still looking around to see whats out there. I wonder if the A-1 low-down header can be use with dual QPs. --louis

Maybe A1 will modify one for you? "why would I sell a 1-3/4" header designed to fit a street car, when there are NO street cars that need a 1-3/4" header?" No, no—I like heat in my race car. Keeps me warm on the top end.

My 1-5/8" I just bought from Dave fit awesome. I was pleasantly surprised on how well it fit up. I still don't know whe the actual mfg. is though........I'm not sure Dave knew either. The A-1 muffler I asked for wasn't an A-1 either.
