CAMPER BUILDING AIR/WATER CLD.

DIY. LETS HAVE SOME IDEAS/PICS.
My project is based on a T4, 2.5 TDI. Captain seats, wall behind seats will be partially cut out.
3/4 Rock and Roll bed is ordered at Bluebird Customs. I will install a small Reimo pop-up roof and
home made cooker/dishwasher unit just to get the camper license to save road tax.
Luxury will be installed later.
Tow-hook already done, so now i am looking for a cheap (impossible to find) 4 wheel/braked/low trailer.
Pics later.

I lost all plastic stuff (No Rust underneath...), replaced brakediscs, hoses, pads, all fluids, complete exhaust, both bumpers, stripped all interiour and cargo "floor".
i will loose those idiot wheels and go for the powder steelies. Next the car will be pressure-cleaned on the underside
and getting the Mike Sanders treatment. Next week the pop-top goes in, and then i will start on the camper interiour.
All inputs are very welcome.

I will straighten and repaint the lower part of the bus soon. No 2- tone. Then 2 pop-open side windows are going in.

Looking good Harry.
I've owned a few Transporters, both air and water cooled.
1959 Truck (some call it single cab), 2054cc, 42 x 37 Denham heads, 44IDF, real monster with reduction boxes (tip toe backwards wheelie)
1970 Scab Kombi passenger bus. Earned its nickname because of rough orig "blood clot red" paint. Picked it up for $150, with bad (but running) motor. Built a good 1678cc single port for it and drove the wheels off of it 1990-1992
1971 white Westafalia "#9, #9, #9, #9" camper Bus. Originally owned by hippy Dan "#9", an employee of BH, had some unique upgrades... came with 1776, 041 heads, baby Webers... I ripped it out and put the 1678cc from Scab in it, but with dual ports and Kadrons. Much better.

thanks
My friend Sean, (Crofty here) has a beautiful Euro '65 Westfalia (sorry I don't know the SO #... I am not a bus guy), but at one time many years ago, when our club was in full force (Aufklarung VW) he ran a healthy 1915cc with Kadrons and it was plenty fast... easily outran my wasserboxer.
It was actually the motor that came out of Sheep's red '67.

Sean's bus is a SO-42 and he uses the hell out of it. He's had it all over the left coast.

wish I could post some of the old pictures of us... the Poker Run was a classic... bunch of idiots packed in and around that bus, all saluting a can of Coors Light. Like I said, IDIOTS.
The best pictures have to be from our club trip to Death Valley. many of them were taken from inside the bus, on our midnight drive to Racetrack Playa, down the long gravel road, south of Ubehebe crater. Most of the pics, every guy in the Bus (inlcuding the pilot Sean) are armed with a blue Henry Wienhard's...
To think now, that a bunch of 20-somethings took a hot rodded Bus to Death Valley from SF/Bay Area, then off road to some of the most desolate terrain in the state, and back home again (without incident, mechanically at least)... in 3 days... we were insane, but those were the days...

Well finally the pop-top has been "installed" by an authorized Reimo "Dealer". What an idiot, i will have to do 75% of the work again. (Pics later). I will have to cut more holes in the cargo floor due to rust. I searched high and low to get sheet-metal for the floor but to no avail. Last thing i did was visit a VW dealer..... It seems that the whole floor is available for about 300.00 EU.
I'm thinking off grinding the whole floor out, and BOLTING the new one in.
Last week i made a good deal on a second hand sliding door With sliding window, and a ton of small sparts just for 200.00.
Right now i'm waiting on the 3/4 Rock 'n Roll bed from Bluebird Customs.

Hey I didn't know you had this topic.
It allready looks much better with the original bumpers.I drove a T42.5 for 4 years and I must say they are a dream to drive.
I did 200.000 km in 4 years and never had any problems.

Door repainted with made-up spraycans, it's not looking bad at all IMHO.
The door was a bitch to do and align. A lot of rewelding parts and adjusting to do.
But the result came out nicely.
Today i started to create some space and grinded half of the cabin-wall out.
Plus i took the bottom half out of the dash to prep for charging relay for my extra batteries.
220 Volts will enter thru the dummy foglight in the rear bumper.
The 3/4 rock and roll bed from Bluebird is in, and i'm getting a little cramped on
space with 3 projects going on.

It may not look much, but a lot of work has been done, weld floor, wire the rear for 220 volts, amp. and additional batteries, pre-install sleeping area (100 times), and do 99% of insulation under the floor and walls. I'm about to install cooking area and carpet all panelling. All fasteners are done with threaded bushings so i can take this baby apart to see if the rust demon pops-up. BTW. the Mike Sanders anti-rust treatment job was a mess. 5 weeks to go to get her ready for Spain.
